Instances when Bollywood fell prey to Piracy
Films lose a major chunk of the box office revenues due to piracy. This problem is one of the chief reasons that are plaguing Bollywood and other movie making industries, and shaking their foundations.
Many producing houses, like YRF, have also taken a strong stand to going digital with a mere handful number of prints of the film. The idea behind this step was to try and shift exhibitors to the digital wagon. The production house’s blockbuster Dhoom 3 was released on these principles and since then, exhibitors are keen to showcase the films making use of this technological shift.
Many A-list actors such as Ashish Chowdhry and Riteish Deshmukh have also taken the lead in providing the film industry with software that can get rid of online piracy. To do this, they have imported the software which can scan websites for pirated content and then block them effectively. Here are some movies that suffered at the hands of piracy:
Paa
R. Balki's star studded 'Paa' was available online on the day it was released, which caused many fans to cancel their bookings, which consequently resulted in the loss of millions.
Dabangg
Big star cast movies such as Salman Khan’s Dabangg fall prey to online piracy frequently. On the eve of the film's release, fifty-two thousand unique links were created which took online users to fourteen thousand pirated movie sites. Producers, Reliance Entertainment, deployed the online anti-piracy service and within hours, majority of these unique links were removed with almost twelve thousand movies taken down. The film experienced a ninety-four percent takedown efficiency rate. In this way, the filmmakers saved big by using digitized methods to curb piracy.
Agneepath
The film industry lost about Rs. 5 billion to piracy in 2011. The success rate in curbing online piracy in case of films like Agneepath was about 84 per cent, which was considered a success with regards to the rampant piracy in the industry.
The producers, directors, and actors work immensely hard to make a film, thus it is morally and ethically correct to buy their DVDs through proper channels instead of downloading them illegally. IndianKart.com is working diligently in this regard by providing original DVDs and CDs of these movies at very reasonable prices in order to encourage the filmmakers to keep on creating their art.
