Inspirational Buildings in the UK
There are many amazing buildings around the United Kingdom,
so I thought I’d do a little piece about some of my favourites. You will
probably recognise many of these but if you don’t then look them up, they are spectacular.
McLaren Technology
Centre, Surrey
The headquarters of the McLaren Technology Group and all of its
companies is located in Surrey, England. The famous architect Sir Norman
Foster, who was behind the new Wembley stadium & the infamous Gherkin, is
responsible for the design of the headquarters which is renowned for its
innovation in modern design and architecture. The main framework of the centre consists of over 5,000
tonnes of steelwork, forming a space covering 57,000 square metres – this would
be big enough to stock nine jumbo jets.
Lloyd’s Building,
London
Lloyd’s Building is home of the Lloyd’s of London insurance institution,
located in London’s financial district. The home of the insurance institution
is located on the former site of East India House in Lime Street, with
construction completed in 1986. The building is a prime example of the modern
Bowellism architecture – with staircases, lifts, electrical power conducts and
water pipes all featured on the outside, giving it the nickname as the
“Inside-Out building”. The building consists of three main towers and three
service towers around a central, rectangular space.

The Shard, London
The Shard, formerly known as London Bridge Tower, is an
87-storey skyscraper in Southwark, London. Designed in the year 2000 by Renzo
Piano, the Italian architect whom previously was best known for creating the
Pompidou Centre in Paris. The Shard offers visitors London’s highest and best
view with unparalleled 360 degree panoramas for up to 40 miles.

The BT Tower, London
The BT Tower (formally known as the Post Office tower) is a
communications tower located in Fitzrovia, London. With construction finalised
just over 50 years ago, the BT Tower was then known as the tallest building
structure in the UK. The building is concrete clad in glass, and with its
narrow cylindrical shape it makes it one of London’s most iconic landmarks.

The Eden Project,
Cornwall
The Eden Project was opened to the public in March 2001 and
is a multiple Greenhouse complex, with artificial bio-domes featuring plants
collected from all over the world. The domes consist of plastic cells which are
supported by a steel frame structure. One of the biomes simulates a tropical
environment, with a second biome a Mediterranean environment. Both of which are
well over 100ft high, with the tropical biome covering 3.9 acres and the
Mediterranean covering 1.6. With sculptures, planted landscapes and gardens
dotted around, the project is a truly unique and spectacular attraction.

All of these buildings are outstanding; they are all highly
maintained and well looked after by facilities management companies such as Servest.
