Indian Cricket Achievements in this decade

Over the last ten years, Indian Cricket team has experienced several memorable moments- some great, and some heart-breaking. India in this decade achieved many milestones, some were under MS Dhoni’s leadership and some were under Virat Kohli’s.


Here’s a compilation of the top achievements of Team India throughout this decade.


INDIA achieved Number-One in ICC Test ranking, 2009


On 6th December 2009, Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, team India became only the third team after Australia and South Africa to surge to the top of the ICC Test rankings. India’s rise to the No.1 position in the ICC Test ratings was due to their improved performances overseas. India’s overseas success was majorly constructed by the Fabulous 5 of the Indian Cricket (Tendulkar, Kumble, Ganguly, Dravid & Laxman). Shewag, Harbhajan, Zaheer Khan, Dhoni & Gambhir the Young Guns also contributed consistently to achieve the No. 1 spot in Test ranking.


INDIA wins Asia Cup 5 times


On 24th June 2010, India clinched the Asia Cup after 15 long years. They defeated Sri Lanka by 81 runs in the final at Dambulla, Sri Lanka to lift the trophy. It was India’s 5th Asia Cup trophy since the inauguration of tournament way back in 1984. India reached the Asia Cup final 8 times out of 10 times and won 5 times (1984, 1988, 1990-91, 1995 & 2010).


Winning the 2011 World Cup


It was a night to remember for every Indian as MS Dhoni took India to the World Cup glory with a massive six. The talented Indian team lifted the World Cup trophy after 28 years. India defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in a fantastic final to lift the trophy. The skipper led from the front with a match winning score of 91. Dhoni along with Gambhir (97) chased down the target of 275 and created history.


Winning 2013 Champions Trophy


England and Wales hosted the 2013 Champions Trophy. India and England won their respective games against Sri Lanka and South Africa comprehensively and the final between the two took place on 23 June 2013. India beat England by 5 runs at Edgbaston, winning their second title.

On 7th January 2019, Virat Kohli and his men finally breached the Australian barrier. The Men in Blue won the Test series against Australia in Australia by 2-1 and created history. Over the years, Indian side has always found it difficult to beat the Aussies but India under Virat Kohli played some aggressive cricket to rewrite the history books.
