The Canadian province of Nova Scotia approved 2,780 immigration applications in 2019 – an increase of 21% over the 2018 intake. The province recorded its highest ever number of new permanent residents in a single year – 6,630 as of 31st October 2019. Almost 68% of these people arrived through non-federal pathways – 3,165 under the Provincial Nominee Program, and 1,320 via the Atlantic Immigration Pilot.

By rapidly processing applications and using innovative methods to recruit foreign workers, the Nova Scotia Nominee Program has successfully filled local labor market requirements in several key industries, including healthcare. Since 2015, the provincial government of Nova Scotia has approved the immigration applications of above 2,500 certified foreign professionals – including early childhood educators, nurses, continuing care assistants, accountants and financial auditors. As per the federal government, immigrants to Canada in 2019 secured the highest entry wages recorded in the past 35 years.
