I am part of a very special group
I happen to be a part of a very special club. Almost anyone can become a part of this club, there are very few restrictions on who can join.
Most people join when they are very young, just out of school. Some members repeatedly do what got them entrance for decades while others do it only once. The thing is that joining this club is a lifetime membership. This club is also global members come from every nation on Earth. Some join voluntarily like I did, and others are required to join. But no matter how you join you are always a member.
This club also has an ancient history. It is as old as the bible. World leaders, celebrities and other luminaries are all represented in this special club. What is this club? Military veterans.
From the beginning of time nations have had some form of military force. When you leave military service you enter the ranks of the Military veterans. We are people who have sometimes fought wars and sometimes stood by as a deterrent to war. We have been honored and derided. We have conquered and defended. We have been hailed by the conquered and derided by our own countrymen over the centuries, and yet this club is still here our ranks still grow.
We have been treated with kindness and abuse over the centuries. Many of us lived through hell on a battlefield just to come home to hear ourselves referred to as killers by the very people we expected to welcome us home. We have stood at memorials to battles we fought faced the enemy we fought against as we honored our fallen brothers in arms.
We have celebrated holidays in foxholes and trenches half a world away from our loved ones. We have dodged bullets while our children were born, graduated or married.

Tomorrow is Veteran's Day. Take a moment to honor the Veteran's who have fought for the freedoms we enjoy.

I packed my equipment as we were ordered to Grenada. But before we could get it all packed we got the stand down. All veterans sacrifice and it is not the soldier on the battlefield that makes that decision to go to war. Just as the brass safe in the war room have no idea of what a soldier must do to survive on that battlefield. I respect every soldier that ever stepped on the field of battle.

Happy Veterans Day, Cheryl. I joined the Marines right after they had pulled out of Vietnam so I didn't see any combat. I liked military service but I didn't have a "military wife", if you know what I mean, so I didn't re-enlist. Today's all volunteer military have sacrificed so much with multiple deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan. God Bless our Armed Forces and their families.
