Human Cloning

Science is the basis of all living forms. Science surrounds us in our daily lives and is the basis of every action we take. Scientists are always looking to make breakthroughs in advancement in various fields; whether in physics, chemistry, or biology, it does not matter. Science is a methodical and logical investigation into how the universe works. And what is more interesting than learning about human life. The human body and its functioning have been an area of great interest for biologists and scientists over the centuries. There has been a significant advancement in understanding how the human body works along with its constitution. We now know how the human body is made up, its chemical composition, the role of different organs, and its structure. This knowledge has prompted biologists to wonder whether they can artificially create a human body.

Human cloning is the development of a genetically identical duplicate (or clone) of a human. Cloning is the method of copying genetic material from one living organism to create exact copies of it. The reason behind human cloning is basically to recreate another living being who is similar to the original with slight modifications in their genetic make-up to create a better version of the original.

Since cloning is still a procedure that scientists are trying to perfect, human cloning is illegal in most parts of the world. However, there have been a few experiments conducted on animals to test whether cloning animal lives is possible or not. One of the most famous and successful experiments on cloning is that of a female sheep- Dolly. In 1996 in Scotland, a female sheep gave birth to the now-famous Dolly, who was the first mammal to be cloned from the cells of an adult animal. After that, many cloning experiments have taken place on other animals and plants.

Even though human cloning is illegal and unethical, cloning human stem cells remains a very encouraging area of research. By resorting to therapeutic cloning (a type of cloning used to build tissues capable of repairing or replacing damaged tissue), people can get organ transplants, which would earlier have been challenging to get. Additionally, studying human cloning also gives more insight into the functioning and organization of the human body, which can have positive rewards in the future.

There are factions of society who believe that even though human cloning as a concept is groundbreaking, there are reasons to think that it can be somewhat unethical to practice it. The most opposition received towards human cloning is from religious communities. According to them, by resorting to cloning, which is the artificial creation of life, we are undermining the will and power of the gods. Another faction of people opposed to human cloning cites their reasons that there is not enough technological advancement to experiment with human lives. They also believe that cloning can, to a certain extent, be related to abuse, as the person who is created can find it challenging to integrate with society or have genetic problems.

While the concept of human cloning is fascinating and remarkable in nature, the actual practice of it is not very practical. There is constant conflict between advancing research in the field versus the ethical implication and the rights of the persons involved in the procedure. Since there is a lack of research, we cannot safely carry out further experiments. And because there is no experimentation done on the subject, we cannot gather enough data and analyses. It is a never-ending cycle that concludes that Human Cloning is a procedure that should be reserved for the future when there is the appropriate technology for safe practice.
