by Natasha Roy Sales Advisor
Our cities never sleep, they’re never have a dull moment in them, quite literally. Looking from a plane you can easily see that our cities are bright. Too bright some might say. Their brightness is causing light pollution. Light pollution is referred to as the excessive, obtrusive and unwanted artificial lighting. It is the alteration or degradation of natural light in the environment by the introduction of artificial lights. Light pollution is also known as luminous or photo pollution. It is caused as a result of industrialization and modernization. We have all studied about this in school, but none of us give it a second thought. But it’s time to start thinking about it, because this might be a cause of some serious health problems, can have adverse effects on our nocturnal wildlife and even our ecosystem. With all that is already wrong with the environment we don’t really need more to worry about, do we?

So how can you help fight against light pollution? Here your answer.

  1. Choose wisely: We all have indoor lighting in our homes. A simple step like switching to led professional lighting can be a major step toward fighting light pollution. Retail led lighting is not only cost effective, but is also environmentally friendly. These lights emit softer light and also consume a considerably less amount of energy.
  2. Smart technology: Saving light and electricity is a must to save the earth and fight pollution. Investing in smart technology can help you do just that. LED lights often come with lighting controls that allow you to turn on or off your home or work place lights remotely. They also allow you to adjust the brightness and energy consumption of these lights.
  3. Go for quality over quantity: For the amount you pay for one piece of LED consumer lighting you can probably purchase double the amount of normal lights. But by shelling out more money the first time you can be saving yourself a lot of money in future. LED lights are not cheaper than your normal light bulbs, they are also more effective. They last much longer than normal lights, so you save on replacing these lights from time to time. They consume less energy and give out more light which means you’re not only saving on electricity but also purchasing less number of lights to light up your home or workplace.
