How to Use Home App to Manage HomeKit Secure Video Cameras

This feature enables you to view, share, and save the video recordings straightaway from the ‘Home’ app of your Apple device. A lot of cameras support this feature, for instance, Logitech Circle View, Netatmo Smart Indoor Camera, etc, but the navigation can be quite complex.

Below is a guide on how to use the features offered by the security camera feature and relax as you can control everything with the help of a remote, which is your iOS device.

View Recorded Video in the Home App

The steps to view the recorded video on the ‘Home’ tab are:

  1. Go to the ‘Home’ app.
  2. Click on the ‘Rooms’ tab at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Swipe left or right on the screen to move to the desired room.
  4. Click on the camera thumbnail.
  5. Swipe left or right on the timeline or select the date from the calendar to view the recordings from a specific date.
  6. Select the ‘Motion Event’ to automatically play the recording that’ll replace the live view of your camera.

Save Recorded Video in the Home App

The steps to save the recorded video on the ‘Home’ tab are:

  1. Go to the ‘Home’ app.
  2. Click on the ‘Rooms’ tab at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Move to the right or left to jump to a room that has the camera.
  4. Click on the camera thumbnail.
  5. Move along the timeline or select the desired date from the calendar.
  6. Select the ‘Motion Event.’
  7. Click on the ‘Share’ icon present on the left side of the screen.
  8. Hit the ‘Next’ button on the top-right corner.
  9. Click on the ‘Save Video’ option. The video will directly get saved to the ‘Photos’ app on your device.

Share Recorded Video in the Home App

The steps to share the recorded video on the ‘Home’ tab are:

  1. Go to the ‘Home’ app.
  2. Click on the ‘Rooms’ tab at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Move to the right or left to jump to a room that has the camera.
  4. Click on the camera thumbnail.
  5. Move along the timeline or select the desired date from the calendar.
  6. Select the ‘Motion Event.’
  7. Click on the ‘Share’ icon present on the left side of the screen.
  8. Hit the ‘Next’ button on the top-right corner.
  9. Select the ‘Contact’ option to share the video recording. You can share the recordings using third-party applications like Twitter, Messages, etc.

Note: You can also share these recordings with your iCloud Photo Albums.

Delete Recorded Video in the Home App

The steps to delete the recorded video on the ‘Home’ tab are:

  1. Go to the ‘Home’ app.
  2. Click on the ‘Rooms’ tab at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Move to the right or left to jump to a room that has the camera.
  4. Click on the camera thumbnail.
  5. Move along the timeline or select the desired date from the calendar.
  6. Select the ‘Motion Event.’
  7. Click on the ‘Share’ icon present on the left side of the screen.
  8. Hit the ‘Trash’ icon appearing on the right side of the timeline.
  9. A pop-up menu will appear. Select ‘Delete Clip.’

Using a HomeKit and the features that come along is a very convenient option for your smart home. It makes it easy for you to keep an eye and manage all the corners of your space. All it requires is a set up of smart home appliances and a Home app on your iOS device, and you’re good to go.
