How to use Apple Pencil in iPad or iPad Pro (first and second Generation)

First-generation of Apple Pencil work:

  • iPad Pro 11-inch.
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (third generation).

Two minor differences between Apple Pencil generation I and II is that there is a silver band on top of the first-gen Apple Pencil.

Here are some more distinguishing features between generation I and Generation II that are not easy to find in photos.

Apple Pencil I generation poses a soft, polished finish and completely round in shape. It has a silver band and a detachable cap exposing a lightning connector. The conductor can be utilized to charge and pair the Pencil. On the other hand, II generation has a matt finished, and one flat side has the word Apple Pencil written on its side. it can pair and charges magnetically and does not use a lighting connector.

How to pair Apple Pencil with iPad and iPad Pro ( generation I)

1. Unlock the preferred iPad and uncap the Pencil.

2. The Pencil should be plugged into the iPad.

3. Tap on Bluetooth Pairing Request if it appears.

How to pair Apple Pencil with your iPad and iPad Pro ( generation II)

1. Unlock the preferred iPad and uncap the Pencil.

2. The Apple Pencil should be placed on the broad side of iPad Pro that has the magnetic strip.

3. Tap on Bluetooth Pairing Request if it appears.

Checking Apple Pencil’s battery level

They don’t have a physical charging indicator and LED on its body. So you have to check its battery energy on your iPad and iPad Pro you have paired.

Here is a step to how to check the battery energy level of I generation Apple Pencil.

1. Drag iPad’s top downwards to trigger Notification Center.

2. To reach Widgets screen you need to swipe right.

3. Oversee Batteries division.

4. In case the Battery division is not visible, then press Edit on the lower Widget side.

5. Now, press the Plus option to add the section within Widgets.

Checking Apple Pencil’s battery level ( II generation Apple Pencil)

On comparing Apple Pencil generation, I the II generation Apple Pencil easy to check the battery level. It can be simply placed beside the magnetic charging strip. You can also remove you get notification pop up on your device where show your battery percentage.

Here is a step to charge I generation of Apple Pencil using your iPad pro

1. Detach cap from Apple Pencil.

2. Put the Lightning connector into your device’s Lightning port.

Here is a step to charge I generation of Apple Pencil using the lighting adapter

1. Detach cap from Apple Pencil.

2. Put Lightning connector in Lightning adapter.

3. Plug Lightning adapter in the Lightning cable.

Here is a step to charge generation of Apple Pencil

The Pencil simply needs to be placed at the broad side of the iPad Pro that has the magnetic strip.
