How to spice up your Indian traditional outfit
As easy it is to put together a traditional outfit, it is that difficult to find quirky, beautiful, statement jewellery pieces that complement your outfit without looking over-the-top. Even more difficult is deciding whether to go for statement necklaces or earrings, or should you stand out by wearing a septum ring or a bejewelled maang-tika or just keep it simple and pile on bangles. To make your decision a tad easier, we have compiled a list of jewelleries to spice up your Indian traditional outfit.
1.
Clutch - An embroidered
clutch is the most basic of Indian
costume jewellery/accessories. Either you can choose a quirky pattern like
the Rara Avis Beetle Clutch or an unusual color scheme like the Rara Avis Green
& Gold leather clutch. The clutch should always be a complement for your
outfit. Choose the quirky patterns when your outfit is more plain to draw
attention to your clutch. Also remember to choose clutches that are of
complementary colors of the color of your outfit. Like blue-orange, pink-green,
etc.
2.
Bangles - Bangles are a
standard fare for any Indian traditional outfit. You can either stack a bunch
of metallic bangles, mix-and-match metals or go with a simple, elegant cuff.
Whatever your taste may be, there is an
for you. Want something more fancy? Go with the costume jewellery bangles studded with turquoise or decorated with
tiny bunches of pearl like the ones by Zarin.
3.
Belts - Belts may seem
like an odd choice for traditional Indian wear but hear me out. Kamarbandha are
perfect to draw attention to your waist and make you seem more slender as well
as curvacious. There is nothing like it in Indian
costume jewellery. You can go for ones in gold, silver or stone-studded.
Feeling adventurous? Try a modern embroidered belt to spice up your outfit.
4.
Earrings - Every one of us
owns multiple jhumkas, chandbalis, chandelier and statement earrings. With
earrings, pretty much anything goes. You can try matching your earrings with
the color of your outfit. Or wear an elaborate jhumka to pull together your
monochromatic lehenga. Or wear statement earrings in bold colors and geometric
designs to make your outfit more edgy and modern.
5.
Necklace - Nowadays,
chokers are everywhere. Go traditional with your costume jewellery and wear one in gold, silver or velvet
embroidered with beadings, glasses and colorful threads. If chokers is not the
cup of your tea, go for long, layered necklaces. Make sure all the necklaces
are of different lengths but of the same material like gold.
