How to Set Up Albums & Libraries in Photos for Mac?

Cameras are easily available and we love clicking pictures. Because of this, we end up having way too many pictures lying around in our devices. Even though clicking pictures is fun, organizing them is not. Mac’s Photos app makes it easier for you to use albums and libraries to organize pictures.

Adding Images & Videos to Albums

If you want to add images & videos to albums in Photos for Mac, then you need to follow the instructions given below.

  • First of all, you have to open the Photos app on your MacBook.
  • After that, you should select Photos on the left side beneath the Library section.
  • Then you should choose the pictures you would like to move to an album.
  • Thereafter long-press the command key on your MacBook & choose the number of images.
  • Later, you have to go to your selected pictures & videos, right-click on it.
  • Now, go to the Add to option.
  • Then you can select between creating a new album or an existing album.

To Arrange Albums & Folders

You can arrange albums & folders. Here are the instructions given below.

  • Get started by opening Photos on your MacBook.
  • After that, you should go to the sidebar & right-click on My Albums or click on +add icon that is near to My Albums.
  • Then you have to click on New Folder.
  • Thereafter give the name of your folder.
  • Now, you should move the albums into that folder.

Set Up the Smart Albums

If you want to set up the smart albums, then you need to follow the instructions given below.

  • To get started, unlock the Photos app on your MacBook.
  • After that, you should right-click on My Albums or click on the +add icon that comes near to My Albums.
  • Then you have to choose New Smart Album.
  • Thereafter give a name of your Smart Album.
  • Later, you should select the parameters for the Smart Album.
  • To confirm, click on, OK.

Access Photos for Mac with the Sidebar

You can go to Photos for Mac using the sidebar. Here are the instructions given below.

  • To begin with, open the Photos on your MacBook.
  • After that, you should select the View in the menu section.
  • Navigate the menu section & choose Show Sidebar.
  • You will see sidebar on the left of the display.
  • Now, go with the on-screen steps over to hide it.

Go to the Moments, Collections & Year Views

If you want to go to the moments, collections & year views, then you need to follow the instructions given below.

  • First, you have to click on Photos on your MacBook.
  • After that, you should go to the sidebar & ensure that you are in the Photos.
  • Then you have to select Moments, Years, Photos or Collections options.
  • Thereafter go to the year section & click on it for moving to the collection. Or else, move it to a segment of collection to go to a Moment. You can also move it to any Moment to see the media more closely.
  • Even with the help of keyboard’s arrow keys you can go through pictures & Videos in a Moment.
  • Click once to select it otherwise twice click on it to see it.

Creating a New Library with Photos for MacBook 

You can make a new library with Photos for MacBook. Here are the instructions given below.

  • First & foremost, long-press the Option key on the keyboard.
  • After that, you should twice click on Photos on the keyboard.
  • Go to the Choose Library screen & select Create New.
  • Then you should give the name of your Library.
  • Now, click on, OK.

Move Among Libraries in Photos for MacBook

If you want to move among libraries in Photos for MacBook, then you need to follow the instructions given below.

  • First of all, ensure that Photos is close.
  • After that, long-press the Option key on the keyboard.
  • Then you should twice click on Photos.
  • Now, go to the name of the library you would like to open.

Switch the Photos Library to an External Hard Drive

You can switch the Photos library to an external hard drive. Here are the instructions given below.

  • Get started by, opening the Finder screen on your MacBook.
  • After that, you should go to the sidebar & select Mac hard drive.
  • Then twice click on the Users folder.
  • Thereafter, twice click on the Username.
  • Later, you have to double click on the Pictures folder.
  • Now, navigate the sidebar & select the Photos Library to move it to the external hard drive.
