How To Set Up Aftermarket Fog Lights
by Bucky Robert Headlights, Fog lights assemblies, Indicators, CorPeople tend to have a bit of
confusion as to how and when to use fog lights on their cars. It is easier to
decide when one should be using high beam and low beam lights, but making a
similar decision with fog lights isn’t so easy. This is because fog lights see
their usage only in specific situations. People generally use fog lights in
situations that affect visibility and weather such as fog, mist, and dust.
Automotive fog lights typically emit
a bar-shaped beam. In comparison to high beam and light beam lights, fog lights
are generally aimed at a steep angle. This allows the area just ahead of the
vehicle to be illuminated.
Also, there is another misconception
floating around that all fog lights illuminate yellow in color. However, this
is not true. You will also find that certain aftermarket suppliers often have
different names for fog lights such as fog lamps and driving lamps.
Some people may even contemplate as
to why fog lamps are yellow in color. the scientific reason behind this that
lights are a spectrum of wavelengths. The shorter wavelengths such as blue or
violet tend to cause dazzling and glaring as they refract off of rain and fog.
Now, the yellow wavelength does not glare under poor weather conditions and
thereby is ideal to be used in fog lights.
During optimal driving conditions,
fog lights are pretty much useless unless the driving conditions get poor.
Weather conditions such as rain, fog,
snow or excessive dust begin causing obstruction to vision, fog lights can be
switched on to aid your driving. During poor driving conditions, high beam and
low beam lights will reflect back and cause difficulty in driving. With fog
lights switched on, you’ll find that it only illuminates the area ahead of the
vehicle and does not obstruct vision. It is not advised that you drive at high
speed when using fog lights. Fog lights are meant to help you pull your vehicle
to safety and not to continue driving on.
There are two main uses of fog lights
- first, to reduce glare and dazzle when driving. Second, to help you see what
lies ahead of your vehicle as your drive.
However, it is important that you
have quality fog lights to aid you when driving in poor driving conditions. If
you live in an area that is usually affected by poor weather conditions, having
quality fog lights installed on your vehicle is a must.
