How To Replace The Water Filter On The Fridge - Old And New Methods

You may have been wondering recently, How do I change the water filter in my Frigidaire, Samsung, LG, Maytag, Whirlpool or GE fridge? Replacing the water filter is very easy in most NEWER units. Many refrigerator manufacturers have managed to remove and replace the filter by themselves. Two of the most common procedures for replacing the water filter cartridge are the water filter in the bottom grill of the fridge with a return and pull method , and the water filter in the grill that is removed by a push button method.. These are the 2 easy methods and do not require moving the refrigerator out of place. However, some older units and other cold water filters are slightly different. Always consult your owner's manual for where the filter is located in the refrigerator and follow the removal instructions.

 

If you cannot find the user manual that came with your refrigerator and change your water filter for the first time, read on to find the most common area where the water filter will be located.

 

Modern refrigerators - The whirlpool , Help Kitchen , JennAir and Amana refrigerators will lower grille water filter in the refrigerator. Most GE Refrigerators will have the water filter inside the refrigerator on the top right and back. Latest Samsung and some newer Kitchen Aid Refrigerators will have the water filter on the side of the door on the left. Most LG Refrigerators will have the water filter located on the left side of the ceiling behind the door on the left.

 

Older style refrigerators - Most older refrigeration models (manufactured before 2002) will have the old water filter, which is behind the refrigerator. The water valve behind the refrigerator will need to be turned off at these old-style refrigerators to change the filter. To change the filter on this type of refrigerator, slightly slide the appliance, disconnect the appliance, turn off the water valve, remove and replace the water filter, turn the water valve again, check for leaks, connect the refrigerator back to the power outlet, the unit slide back into place and you're done.

How to remove the water filter located on the bottom grill of the refrigerator with the "lock" method - Locate the filter and turn the knob at the end of the filter to the left. Then remove the old filter and discard it. Insert the new water filter and turn the knob clockwise to secure it. Write down the date you installed the new filter and replace it after 6 months of use. Done!

 

How to remove the water filter located on the bottom grill of the fridge using the push button method - This filter is located in the front of the grill fridge. To remove this filter, press the button next to the filter. This filter will slide so that it is easy to grip. Remove the old filter cover and put it on the new filter. Then install the new filter and push it until you hear a clicking noise. Write down the date you installed the new filter and replace it after 6 months of use. Done!

 

How to remove the water filter from the front of the refrigerator compartment using the "slide" method - Open the filter compartment on the front of the refrigerator and remove the filter. Discard the old filter. Then slide the new filter into the compartment and turn it back on. Write down the date you installed the new filter and replace it after 6 months of use. Done!

 

How to remove the water filter located in the round plastic housing inside the refrigerator - For this type of filter you may need a key for the water filter as this filter can be screwed very tightly from the factory. Once you unscrew the housing, you can remove the old filter and discard. Put the new filter inside the housing and screw the housing. Write down the date you installed the new filter and replace it after 6 months of use.
