How To Reach Mount Kailash Mansarovar?

Standing tall at 22000feet, Mount Kailash is known to be the abode of Lord Shiva. It is one of the world's most revered holy places. Mount Kailash is a part of Trans Himalaya in Tibet. Thanks to its high altitude and remote location in western Tibet, only a few thousand pilgrims are able to do the yatra to Kailash Mansarovar every year.
 
The yatra is famous for two things, doing a parikrama of the Mount Kailash and taking a holy dip in the mount Mansarovar lake. It is said to relieve pilgrims of any sins and bringing salvation to them.
 
This yatra is open for people between the ages group of 18 to 70. You can do the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra by Helicopter, AC buses, Jeeps or by Foot. Many people prefer to do the yatra either by foot or by helicopter because of its scenic beauty.
 
Kailash Mansarovar can be reached using three ways
 
Flights
 
There are no major international airports in the area. The nearest airport is Ngari Gunsa Airport and it is connected to Kashgar in China via China eastern airlines, Lhasa in Tibet via Tibetan airlines and in Ürümqi in the Xinjiang region via Lucky Air. The other nearest airport is in Lucknow, India. The Chaudhary Charan Singh international airport in Lucknow has good connectivity to major cities such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, and Chennai. It also has good connectivity to international cities such as Riyadh, Singapore, and Dubai. Tourists and pilgrims from cities in abroad and India can easily reach major cities of India and board a flight to Lucknow. There are many airlines serving the airport including Air India Express, GoAir, Air India and more. You can also book your flight directly to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, which is also connected to many cities around the globe.
 
Nearest Airport: Ngari Gunsa Airport is 209 Km away from Kailash Mansarovar, whereas Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow is 437 Km away and Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu is 501 km away.
 
Note: Kailash Mansarover is located in Tibet, foreign tourist and pilgrims should apply for special permits to enter the region, from their respective countries.
 
Buses
 
Buses to Kailash Mansarovar are available from India, Nepal, and China. Indian government organizes regular tours, but the number of seats is very limited. There are four land routes that can be used to reach Kailash Mansarovar, Shigatse in Tibet, Kashgar in China, Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand, India, and Hilsa in Nepal. Private buses are also available from all four locations. You can also use a jeep or helicopter to reach your destination.

Suggestions: The journey is quite challenging as you will have to cross through rough terrain, but this trip is filled with some of the most scenic routes in the world. Since Kailash is located at a height of 19500 feet, it is advisable to be prepared and make yourself fit both physically and mentally. Make sure to carry enough food, water, and medical supplies for the journey.
 
Railways

 
Kailash Mansarovar has no station of its own. The nearest railway station is to reach Mansarovar is in Lucknow, India. After using the train, one has to hire a taxi or a cab to travel further.
 
During the entire year, only a few thousand pilgrims get the opportunity to travel to this scenic and holy place. There are several reasons but one of the main reasons is the Kailash Mansarovar trip cost. It can cost around Rs. 200000 or $3350. The price can vary depending on your mode of transport, hotels and more.
