Using a content management system or CMS is one of the efficient ways to create a website from scratch. This platform is especially good for beginners who don’t have any knowledge about HTML or any other programming language. However, if you are new WordPress, you might get a little bit confused about where you should start. There are a large number of people who know all about the benefits of WordPress and all that but they don’t know how to create a WordPress site. Hence, even if they have heard that WordPress is the ultimate CMS, they couldn’t create a WordPress site. In the following article we would be going back to the basics and see how you can install WordPress for your WordPress as it is the first step towards creating a website based on WordPress.

Installing WordPress

Download WordPress - It all begins with downloading WordPress. It is an opensource CMS and hence you can don’t need to pay anything. Now, that’s one neat feature right there! To download WordPress all you need to do is visit wordpress.org and download the installation package. The file would be saved to the hard disk of your computer. You need to just extract the files into a new folder.

Uploading Files to the Server – After you have downloaded the package and extracted the files, you need to upload the files to the server with the help of an FTP client. You can use the cPanel of your hosting account. Just follow the path cPanel>>File Manager>>Upload Files. If you want WordPress to be the main platform, then you most store the files inside the public_html folder of your account.

Create a MySQL Database for WordPress – You need to create a MySQL database and assign a user to it with full permissions. Once you have created the MySQL database, you need to note down the name of the database, the username and the password.

The Installation Process – Once you are done with all that, you can proceed to the installation process. If you have the files in the public_html folder, you need to type in the domain name of your website in any browser.

The first thing that you would have is a message that tells you that you don’t have wp-config.php file. Just click on the option that says ‘Create a configuration file’.

You would be directed to another section, where you would get a checklist of the things that you need to have in order to proceed. Ensure that you have all the things with you.  After that simply click on the Go! Button.

In the next page, just enter the details of your MySQL database that you have created earlier and then click on submit button.

WordPress would run a check about the settings. If everything is alright, you would get a confirmation message. Click on ‘Run the Install’. On the next screen you would need to enter the information about your site, like the title, admin username and then set a password.

Click on ‘Install WordPress’ and you are done!
