From
bedroom to living and from entryway to bathroom – you can use extra large tiles
for a variety of homes. Ideally, these tiles are used for flooring. They may
also be a suitable choice for walls. However, you will need to double check the
substrate on which the tile will be installed.
If the
substrate is old and loose, the tile will come off and get damaged. So, fixing
the substrate will be the first step to installing your extra large format
tiles. Here we go –
Check
and Fix the Substrate –
In addition
to being solid and strong, the substrate for extra large tiles should be perfectly
level. There should be no bulges and craters on the surface, as they may damage
the tile after installation, when walked on.
Fill the
holes and craters, and level the swells keep your layout idea in mind. Use a
self-leveling compound if required. But make sure that the surface is flat and
even. And let the substrate dry before installation.
Check
the tiles –
Before
installing the tiles, you might want to check if the items you have received
are good to go with and in sufficient quantity to meet your requirement.
Replace damaged tiles before getting started with installation.
Cut the
Tiles –
First, place
your tiles without any adhesive on the area you are working on. This will give
you an idea where you will need to cut the tiles. Mark those tiles that you
have to cut. And cut the tiles using the right tools only.
Apply
the Adhesive –
Apply a
thick, even layer of adhesive or thinset mortar over a small area on the
substrate. Spread it well. You will need to maintain the same thickness of
adhesive across the area you are tiling.
Press
the Tile –
You will
need an assistant to pick the tile and place it over the area where you have
applied the adhesive. Press the tile gently on multiple points, so it grips
well with the adhesive.
Grout the
tile and wait for the duration recommended by the manufacturer. Clean, wash,
rinse and dry the tiled surface before using it for the first time.
