When it comes to basketball, it is important to practice all facets of the game to truly be one of the best. One particular skill that is extremely crucial is free throws. Many games come down to make or break free throws and in order to better yourself, you need to practice on your home basketball court. Here are some things you can do to improve your free throw shot.

Find Your Technique

Basketball players all have a different style of play. When it comes to free throw shooting, you almost have to find a whole different technique of shooting because you don’t jump during a free throw. Find your groove of what makes you comfortable and loose so that you can shoot a straight ball that will make it in the basket.

Practice Makes Perfect

It doesn’t really matter if you are known to hit every three-point shot you take, you need to practice a free throw shot. Not only is the distance significantly different, but you need to make sure you can find a constant flow when you shoot the ball. Great players will spend hours on their home basketball court just practicing free throws to master this skill.

Remember the Basics

Just like you would shoot a regular basketball, it is important how you handle the ball when you shoot. Because you don’t jump during a free throw shot, you have to rely a lot on your wrist work. Just like shooting a ball normally as if you were jumping, you need a good flick of a wrist to get the distance and arc you need to make a basket. Same thing applies with free throws — you just need to adjust with no jump.

Keep Working On It

When you start getting comfortable practicing those free throws on your home basketball court, don’t stop practicing. Even the professionals spend hours making their technique and flow perfect to ensure they maximize their efforts at the free throw line.
