How to Get Your New Novel Published Online

by Michael Lazar PR Expert

First things first, congratulations!

Creating an entire world, building the characters that live within it, making sure that each one has a unique and interesting journey, constructing an overarching narrative with perfect pacing, and then going through edits and rewrites isn’t exactly a simple process.

So the first step in how to get your new novel published online is to pause and feel proud of yourself. [Pause to appreciate your awesomeness.] Feeling accomplished and amazing? Good! Time for step two, getting your future best-seller out there…

Here’s how to get your new novel published online.

Best Online Self-Publishing Platforms

Okay here’s the thing: How you get it published primarily depends on where you get it published.

There are hundreds of online publications, but (like all things) some are better than others! Here are the top two online publishing platforms and exactly how to get your new novel published onto one of them.

  1. Wattpad

Ninety million is a pretty insane number, right? That’s how many hungry readers there are on Wattpad! With regular contests and staff highlights, books published on this platform can skyrocket in popularity literally overnight. And the best part is, you maintain the rights to all of your content when you publish on this online platform.

Here’s a complete guide on how to get your new novel published on Wattpad. And here’s the crash-course:

Create a profile (ideally adding a background photo, location, name, ‘about’, and website)

To begin uploading your new novel, click ‘Create’ and then select ‘+ New Story’

Here you fill in the story details (i.e. title, description, tags, genre, language, copyright, rating, and book cover)

This takes you to a blank page where you can insert your story, divide it into chapters, and insert mixed media, like photos

Once written, you can easily click to publish your story

Shamelessly advertise your new published work

Now, before you ditch this article to open a new tab and become a published author on Wattpad...you’ll probably want to read more about how monetization works on their platform. Or at least stick around to hear the second best publishing platform.

  1. Fictionate.Me

If the name didn’t already tip you off, Fictionate.Me is an online self-publishing platform made specifically for novels, short stories, and novellas in the fiction genre. This platform is great for new and upcoming authors because it’s very easy to navigate and post your book (not to mention free)!

Read more about their wildly generous author perks (i.e. royalties) here. Already convinced? Great! Here’s an in-depth article of how to publish your new novel on Fictionate.Me. And here’s the SparkNotes version:

Begin by creating an account—here you can login using Facebook or Google, or by entering your information

Click your account icon, select ‘my books’, then ‘Add book’ (pretty straightforward, right?)

Fill in your book’s information (the title, synopsis, and audience)

Set the price of your book and the rating

Add genres and tags to help fans find your book quickly and easily

Upload a clear and compelling book cover

Copy and paste your novel chapter by chapter within the Editor function

      Publish the dang thing!

After you’ve completed the final step, you’ll want to take advantage of the platform’s amplification opportunities. Submit your book to contests and comments on other books to gain traction!

Curtain Call

When we started this journey together, a mere 500 words ago, we established that you’re interested in getting your new novel published online.

We then explored the best two options for online publishing—Wattpad and Fictionate.Me—and read the step-by-step process for publishing on each.

And now, we’re in the final sentence, where I’m exhorting you to pick a platform and post your beautiful creation online right this very minute!
