Method 1: Disconnect and Connect the Webcam

If you are using an external webcam, then you need to follow this simple method at first. So first of all, plug out the webcam USB cable from your computer and laptop. Once the webcam is disconnected, plug the Webcam connector cable into another USB port of your PC to ensure that there is no problem with the connectivity. You can also try to power it on and off for once to reset the camera and to make sure the system detects it.

Method 2: Reboot Your Computer

By turning off the PC entirely and plugging out all of the power cords will clear the memory cache of the system. Sometimes when the cached memory data gets corrupted, you might see connectivity issues on your external device such as the webcam. So first of all, shut down the computer and then plug out the power cords. Wait for a while or two minutes and then plug in the power cable. Press the power button to start the device and see if the webcam is working fine.

Method 3: Running Windows Update

Do you know Windows Update can install the necessary drivers and missing system software components into the PC? It can even fix the driver-related issues on your computer, but before launching the Windows Update, make sure the webcam is connected properly. To launch Windows Update on Windows 10, see the instructions mentioned below:

  1. Open the Start Menu either by pressing the Start key or clicking on the start button on the lower-left corner of the screen.
  2. Now search for Settings and then select Settings from results.
  3. Head to Update & Security.
  4. Select Windows Update. Press on Check for Updates.

Windows Update will then check for the required updates, and then it will download installation packages. Once the download finishes, the Windows Update installations will automatically happen, and within an hour or so, the process will wrap up. Restart your computer after the operation completes successfully to experience the changes and see if the error persists.

Method 4: Update the Webcam’s Driver Manually

To update the drivers for your webcam and to fix the windows 10 webcam not working issue, we might need to update and install the webcam drivers by ourselves. Let’s see how the process goes:

  1. Head to the Start menu.
  2. Search for Device Manager.
  3. Right-click on Device Manager and then choose Run as administrator.
  4. There you need to find your webcam.
  5. Expand it and open its Properties.
  6. Navigate to Update drivers.
  7. Press on Search automatically for updated driver software.
