Solutions to Fixing Quickbooks Multi-User Not Working Error

Solution 1: Install And Launch The Tools Hub Program Of Quickbooks

  • Firstly, install the current edition of the QuickBooks tools hub

  • After completing the installation, save the downloaded file in an easily accessible folder. 

  • Now, run this file and comply with the displayed instructions on the system for installing it. 

  • After the file installation is done, launch the "tool hub of QuickBooks."

Step 1: Download and launch the file doctor tool of QuickBooks

  • Initiate the tools hub of QuickBooks and go to "Company File Issues."

  • Select the program "Run QuickBooks file doctor."

  • The download and installation will take a while. 

Through this, the user can verify if the multi-user has been set up or not on the system. After this, open the file doctor tool of QuickBooks and check if the issue has been resolved.

Step 2: Utilise the Database Server Manager of QuickBooks

 

  • Initiate the tools hub of QuickBooks and go to the tab "Network Issue."

  • Then select the option "QuickBooks database server manager."

  • Head to the start menu, enter "QuickBooks database server manager," and ok.

  • Select or browse the folder which consists of the Company's file. 

  • Select the "Ok" button and click on Start Scan.

Solution 2: Examine The Host Mode on All Desktops

  • Launch the QuickBooks accounting software & go to the file menu & select utilities. If "Host multi-user access" is present in the menu, navigate to another desktop.

  • If the "Stop Host multi-user access" is present in the menu, select it and Disable hosting to enable the single-user mode of QuickBooks.

  • It will help solve the issue of multi-users in QuickBooks.

Solution 3: Verify if the Services of QuickBooks are Working Smoothly

The QuickBooks services such as QBCFMonitorService and QuickBooksBDYY must work smoothly on the host system for using the multi-user mode of QuickBooks.


  • Search "Service. MSC" on the search bar of windows.

  • Verify is the list of Service windows consists of "QuickBooksBDYY service."

  • After double-clicking on "QuickBooksBDYY service," it will show the value of Startup Type as Automatic. The value of Services started might be Running, or it will display a button to create it. 

  • Then select the restart option on all failures in the Recovery tab. 

  • Follow similar steps for the second service, "QBCFMonitorService."

Solution 4:  Ensure That QuickBooks is Capable of Sending The Data

There are Two Steps to Fix the Issue With This Solution:

  1. Comply with these steps:                                                                                                                                                           

  • Modify the firewall and antivirus software settings. 

  • If the main reason behind triggering this issue is Firewall, then it is required to fix it manually. This should apply to the routes that QuickBooks uses to transmit data.

  • If the antivirus software is the root of the problem, it must be updated to fix it.


  1. To verify the communication of QuickBooks with its server, The user must carry out file path testing.

  • On the Run Command, type the name of the server and enter. 

  • Operate the shared folder present on the host server by using the UNC path,

  • Also, take the help of this UNC path to reach the company file on QuickBooks.

Solution 5: Make A Fresh Folder For The Company Files

  • In this step, a user must place the Company's file in the new folder, and the folder should be created on the host system. 

  • Configure the new folder & grant permission to windows to access this folder. By this, the users can operate it in multi-user mode. 

  • Lastly, copy and paste the .qbw file inside the new folder created and verify its operation in multi-user mode. It will resolve the issue of the Multi-user not working problem of QuickBooks.
