Office packs numerous useful tools, and Excel is among the most prevalent among them. However, there are instances when the spreadsheets do not filter properly. In case the user is facing the issue as well, then here is what he can do to fix it. So, here are the steps to fix Excel table filtering.

Excel Spreadsheet Filtering Issues

Choose the Entire Column to Apply the Filter

In case the user wishes to choose the entire column to apply the filter, then they can pursue the mentioned instructions.

  • You should choose the table’s entire spreadsheet column by selecting the letter of the column.
  • Go to the Data button and click on it.
  • After that, select the Filter option to save the filter to the entire column.
  • You have to select the cell filter arrow icon to launch the filtering buttons displayed straightly under.
  • Now, unselect the Blanks boxes to leave out the blank cells.

Remove Empty Cells from the Column of Table

Optionally, you should clear rows from a column of the table to contain values under the blank cells from the filter. Choose all the blank rows of cells by pressing the Control button. Thereafter right-click on it and choose the Delete button.

Ungroup Sheets

The Filter button will be greyed out if the sheets are grouped each other. Thus, you should not filter spreadsheet tables in grouped sheets. To solve that, right-click on the grouped sheets at the lower side of the Excel and choose the Ungroup sheets.

  • You should click on the Review option of Excel.

  • When an Unprotect sheet screen launches, input the password for the worksheet in the text section.
  • Now, select the OK option.

In case the user wishes to unmerge cells, then they can pursue the mentioned instructions.

  • Hold the Control + F keys at the same time on your system.
  • After that, select the Format option at the ‘Find and Replace’ screen.
  • You should click on the Merge cells on the Alignment section displayed straightly below.
  • Go to the OK tab and click on it.
  • Click on the Find All option.
  • After that, the Find and Replace screen will list all the cell suggestions with merged cells.
  • If you would like to unmerge the unmerged cells, choose a merged cell.
  • Go to the Merge and Center option on the Home section.
  • Now, choose the Unmerge cells option.

Configure a Fresh Filter

In case the user wants to configure a fresh filter, then abide by the provided steps.

  • In case you find unfiltered rows in the table, then try setting up a new one through the Data section.
