Many of our favourite dresses, shirts, pants and furnishing fall victim to spills and other accidents. This happens even to the most graceful of us. Do not let the stains have the last word!

Before you get started with this, it is best to lay some ground rules regarding the stain removing - try to treat them as quickly as possible. You are having a better chance of getting out the stain while it is still fresh. Test on an inconspicuous part of the cloth or furnishing before applying the cleaning solution to make sure you won’t damage it.

Red Wine

The longer the red wine stains in the fibres the more permanent it becomes, especially if it is heated. After that you are getting to the point of no return. The best way to approach this situation is trying to lift the red wine off the fibers. Scrubbing is absolutely forbidden. Treating the stain like that at the expenses of your favourite garment is in your loss. Follow these simple steps to deal with this stain -

  1. Dab the stain with paper towels to absorb as much as possible of the liquid
  2. Remember not to rub it!
  3. Apply the cleaning solution you have previously tested on what is remaining of the stain

Moisturising the area where the spillage has happened is probably the quickest way to break it up. There are many approaches depending on whether the stain is on the sofa, rug or shirt, surely some of them will do the job. The natural remedies for this problem of course are consisted of salt, club soda and vinegar. On the other hand, when tackling the cleaning chores it is best to use solutions that best support your cleaning habits so that there won’t be surprises. There is always the possibility of using the services Stockport cleaning company to help you with this and make sure you will still continue to enjoy the fabric you’ve almost ruined.

Chocolate

Chocolate is an important part of my life and in children’s too. Sometimes their strong love for chocolate is shown in stains on their clothes and toys..or on whatever they can get a hold of.

Firstly, for chocolate stains it is good to wait until it hardens. After that use butter knife or spoon and gently remove the chocolate. You do not want to use anything sharp that could damage the fabric. Then, use your best judgement and rinse with cold water. I know it is tempting to use hot water, but you will only help the stain settle even better in the fabric, as it is protein-based and cold water will help you remove as much as possible of the stain. Next, rub liquid detergent or liquid dish soap into the stain and wait for about 5 minutes and soak or water the fabric with cold water, then, rinse the strained area.

Grass

Grass stains will come out easily with a prompt laundering and some stain treatment. The techniques include rubbing 50:50 alcohol and water solution, so that the fabric won’t bleed the colours, and if the stain is on white fabric it can be cleaned with bleach solution. When trying to get out grass stains do not use ammonia or alkaline detergents because they will permanently set the stain. To treat grass stains on furnishings it’s best to mix a detergent and water and clean tackle the stain from outside towards the centre.

Coffee

Probably you’ve a little scream inside your head when you’ve spilled the morning coffee all over your clothes or the carpet.

For clothes -

  • Sponge the stains thoroughly and put it in hot water, then, leave it for about 30 minutes to soak. After that you can wash the fabric as normal
  • However, if there was milk in the coffee use some enzyme laundry detergent

For carpet or furniture-

  • Mix one spoon of detergent with half litre of water and blot directly onto the stain
  • If the coffee stains is still remaining, then try a mix of 50:50 water and white vinegar

Grease

Our lovely and pricey clothes and furnishing can find their perfect match with one small spill of grease. Sometimes small and inconspicuous, the grease stains could put a few of our favourite clothes into the pile of “do not wear”. When there are grease stains, acting fast is your best option for efficient cleaning.

  • Cover the stain with talc powder and remove with a vacuum
  • Next thing you will want to do is to apply a few drops of dish soap and rub it gently. Wait for a few minutes and blot the stain with moistened cloth
