How to Export and Delete Tumblr Blog

If you have not used Tumblr for a long time and no longer want to use it, then certainly you’ll want to delete your Tumblr account. Various social networks allow users to deactivate their account temporarily. So that instead of deleting the account permanently, users can disable it temporarily and return to the platform whenever they want. This option is also helpful for users, but unfortunately, you’ll not get it on Tumblr. You can only delete your blogs or your whole account, and once you do so, everything from your profile will be gone, including Tumblr username. Whether you want to delete blogs or your account, you might want to export your blogs before doing so. Here is how to export and delete the Tumblr Blog.

Note: Tumblr mobile app does not allow deleting blogs or account. Therefore, to remove your Tumblr blogs or your account, you will need to sign in with your account on Tumblr website (Tumblr.com).

 How to export your blog from Tumblr

If you think your blogs will come in use somewhere else, then you can backup them before deleting or closing your account. Many users use multiple blog platforms, such as WordPress and Blogger. Therefore, to share the blogs on each of them, they export their blogs. There can be many purposes for exporting blogs. If you also want to keep them, then here is the stepwise guide for you.

1.   Go to Tumblr Website and sign in with the account you want to export the blogs from.

2.   After that, locate the account menu and select ‘Settings’ from the top of the dashboard.

3.   Your blogs will now show up on the right side of your device display.

4.   Look for the blog you want to save and select it.

5.   After selecting the blog, go to the Export section.

6.   And click on ‘Export [BLOG NAME]’ button.

7.   Now, a message will appear, indicating that the backup is processing.

8.   Wait for your blogs to collect and ready to download. Once the processing completes, the ‘Download backup’ button comes in appear.

9.   Click on the ‘Download backup’ button to download your Tumblr blogs.

Tumblr gives you all your blog’s content into a ZIP file. These may include, a Media folder containing MP4, JPG, PNG, and more, a Posts folder containing HTML file for the entire posts, representations of messaging conversations and posts in XML file format.

How to delete your Tumblr Blogs

A user can have multiple blogs on the same Tumblr account as well as delete them without removing their entire account. But, there’s also a condition for it, the blog you want to delete will not be the original that is set up with the account. It means the blog should be secondary, not primary. Here is how to delete secondary blogs from Tumblr.

1.   Sign in to your Tumblr account using the Tumblr website.

2.   After that, click on your Tumblr ‘Profile’ icon under the upper right side menu.

3.   Your blogs will now show up at the right side of your device display under the TUMBLRS section.

4.   Look for the blog you want to delete and select it. Doing so will open the blog and display the options for it. If the blog you want to delete is already selected, then you will see the options for it underneath the blog’s name.

5.   Click on ‘Profile’ and select ‘Edit appearance’ from the options to reopen the dropdown list.

6.   Now, scroll down until you reach the end of the page.

7.   Click on ‘Delete [BLOG NAME]’ button. If you’re trying to delete a primary blog, then this button will not appear instead you’ll see “Delete Account” button. This clearly means to remove the primary blog. You need to delete your entire Tumblr account.

8.   You’ll be prompted to confirm deleting the blog by logging in to your Tumblr account.

9.   Enter your Tumblr account login information.

10. And click ‘Delete [BLOG NAME]’ button.

Once you hit this button, the selected secondary blog will erase permanently from your Tumblr profile.
