How to enable face grouping and label faces in Google Photos

For the smartphone users organizing photos is an important task that is useful to manage space and creating backups. Google Photos app is the most obvious choice of the Android user because of its simple and advanced features. With Label Faces, you can easily find your pictures and manage them in Google Photos. Here is how to enable face grouping, label faces, remove photos from labels, and edit labels in Google Photos.

How to turn on and off face grouping in Google Photos app

1. Open ‘Photos’ app in your Android phone or tablet.

2. Log in with your Google account, ignore if already signed in.

3. Now, click on the ‘Hamburger’ icon.

4. Open ‘Settings’ from the menu.

5. Go to ‘Group similar faces.’

6. Turn on and off ‘Face grouping’ from here.

Turning off face grouping will delete your face groups, face labels, and face models. If you want to disable face grouping only for pets, then simply turn off ‘Show pets with people.’

How to label faces in Google Photos Mobile app

1. Open ‘Photos’ app in your Android phone or tablet.

2. Touch inside the ‘Search bar.’ A menu will open with some small face icons.

Note: If you don’t get any menu or faces, then maybe the feature is not available in your country.

3. Touch on the right arrow to see all faces.

4. Touch on a face to label it.

5. Next, touch on “Who is this?” blue color text.

6. Enter or select a name.

7. Touch the ‘Check’ icon or ‘Return’ key on your keyboard.

That’s it! The label will apply to the face. If more than one faces are appearing for the same person, then you can group them as the same label. Here is how.

To grouping same faces:

•    Touch inside the ‘Search bar.’

•    Touch on another face of the same person.

•    For “Who is this?” enter or select the same label you entered previously.

•    Now, touch the label in search results.

•    For “Are these the same person?” select ‘Yes.’

•    Repeat the process, if required.

How to turn on and off face grouping from Website

1. Visit “photos.google.com.”

2. Click on the ‘…’ icon.

3. Open ‘Settings’.

4. Go to ‘Group similar faces.’

6. Turn on and off ‘Face grouping’ from here.

How to label faces from Google Photos website

1. Visit “photos.google.com.”

2. Click on the ‘Search bar.’ A menu will open with some small face icons.

Note: If you don’t get any menu or faces, then maybe the feature is not available in your country.

3. Click a face icon to label it.

4. Click on “Who’s this?” blue color text.

5. Enter or select a label. You can name whatever you want, nobody will see this except you.

6. Click ‘Done’ to save.

That’s it! The label will apply to the face. If more than one faces are appearing for the same person, then you can group them as the same label.

To grouping same faces: Follow the same process given above for mobile.

How to rename or remove a label

1. Open ‘Google Photos’ mobile app or website.

2. Click on the ‘Search bar’ and enter a label you want to edit.

3. Select the label.

4. Click on the ‘More’ icon.

5. Click on ‘Edit name label’ to rename the label > enter a new name > and save.

6. Click on ‘Remove name label’ to remove.

Note: Removing the label will only delete the label, not your photos.
