How To Disable VoiceOver On Mac?

by Olivia Jones office.com/setup

The VoiceOver is an inbuilt display reader in Mac systems. It loudly reads the content of any website and document. This feature is especially useful for visually impaired people as they can go through the net and use the device with ease. While a majority of the people find it useful, some people get annoyed by this feature. I have come across instances where people enable it by mistake. If you are one of them and to disable VoiceOver, then this blog is perfect for you.

The method of disabling VoiceOver by using a keyboard shortcut

  • For disabling VoiceOver on a Mac- Do a long press on the combination of Command and F5.

Always remember that using the combination of Command+F5 shortcut is also for enabling the VoiceOver again back. So if by mistake you use this combination one more time, then you shall enable it. Sometimes, it does not create confusion, as an onscreen option immediately on the screen, to ask you if you wish to disable it. You should note that a box is presented before you stating ‘Do not show this message again’. Earlier, if you have put a tick on this option, then you may enable the VoiceOver without getting any message for its confirmation.

The method of disabling VoiceOver on Mac from System Preferences

This method of disabling the VoiceOver feature takes some more time as compared to the above-stated ways.

The way of doing it is as follows:

  1. Firstly, press the symbol of Apple. It shall be towards the above at the left corner of the display.
  2. Then, click on System Preferences.
  3. After that, press on Accessibility.
  4. Next, press on Enable VoiceOver box.
  5. Lastly, check whether it is done or not.

Go through the given below method if you have disabled the Command+F5 keyboard shortcut for turning off or on VoiceOver. You shall be able to turn it back on by following the given below instructions carefully.

  1. Firstly, press the symbol of Apple. It shall be towards the above at the left corner of the display.
  2. Then, press on System Preferences.
  3. After that, press on the Keyboard.
  4. Next, press the Shortcuts tab.
  5. Then, tap on Accessibility.
  6. Lastly, tap on the checkbox. It shall be immediately after the ‘Turn VoiceOver on or off’.

Hope you have been able to disable the VoiceOver after going through this blog.
