How to choose the best windsurf board

by TM Maria Be a king in your own kingdom

We will explain in detail the basic differences between the different types of tables on the market to help you choose your table of Windsurf. Always taking into account your level and the characteristics of wind and sea in which you are going to sail.

There are four programs or groups of tables defined by the volume of the tables, from highest to lowest volume depending on their use and level. To know more follow Easy Surf Shop.

- LEARNING: + than 150 lts.

- FREERIDE: from 100 to 120 lts.

- FREERACE: from 130 to 160 lts

- WAVES: less than 100 lts.

BOARDS FOR BEGINNERS: The main characteristic of these boards is their large volume, more than 150 liters, wide, comfortable and easy to use. These boards combined with small rigs offer the first sensations of Windsurfing. One issue to keep in mind is that a girl's outfit is not the same as a boy's. A girl weighing 50 kg will need a lower volume board than a 75 kg boy to obtain the same buoyancy; So for a 75 kg man a 160 liter board would do, and a woman with a 130 or 140 liter board will get the same buoyancy.

FREERACE BOARDS: These are the boards for riders of the highest level looking for speed with little wind, or for heavy riders (above 85 kg) who could use as freeride boards. They are comfortable equipment that can use sails of up to 8 meters approximately and that allow planning with 12 knots. If you live in places with little wind, you should start to see this type of equipment above 120 L.

FREERIDE BOARDS: These multipurpose boards are suitable for both the intermediate and advanced sailor. It is a board that will allow you to improve your speed, practice your first gybes and find your glide with a harness and using the foostraps. So buying a freeride board is important, since you will surely use it for several years. The volumes of these boards range between 105 and 125 L and the option basically depends on the level and weight of the rider.

COURSE BOARDS: These boards, very similar to freerace boards, tend to be a bit shorter and wider and their materials are lighter to guarantee speed and glide with little wind. They are aimed at advanced sailors of a good level who enjoy speed with large sails. Teams that with 10 knots and 9 m2 sails can literally fly over the water.

Freewave: They are equipment for advanced and good sailors, who oscillate between freeride and small waves that like to sail with small sails in strong winds above 20 knots. Boards that adapt very well to waves, surfing but also flat water and good jumps. They have good speed in the choppy and tolerate sails of more than 5 meters. The general range of candles is 4 to 6.2 meters.

Wave: These boards are for semi pro sailors who enjoy sailing purely in waves and with winds above 22 knots. The general range of sails is 4 to 6 meters. They are nervous boards, very surfer, light and that allow great maneuvers. The required level is very good both in technique and in physical condition.
