How to Choose the Best Men's Brogues Shoes

by Mike Tyler Fashion Enthusiast

Even for men who live in sneakers, something is thrilling about putting on a pair of 'real' shoes. Especially when they're as legendary as the barker. The unique perforations of the type were originally meant as a bog water escape valve, popular by Irish farmers who spent half their working day stomping through flooded fields.

The best brogues for men stayed firmly in the country for many of their lives, appropriate for walks, but never in town. However, in the 1930s, the Prince of Wales (future king and style icon) adopted the look for golf, wearing a grey lounge suit. The brogue became a flashy fixture in jazz clubs after the holes were suddenly considered aesthetic rather than practical.

The Barker Professional collection includes a wide choice of formal shoes, including the Albert and Alfred hi-shine designs, two of the Barker collection's longest-serving brogue shoes. The Hampstead, Malton, Mirfield, and Morpeth designs are the other brogues recommended in the Barker Professional line. The BarkerTech Turing full brogue boot is a popular model because it contains BarkerTech comfort technology, which combines classic craftsmanship with padded comfort while retaining an exquisite aesthetic.
