to seek admission in five-year law courses. Many of such students loose their
way out while practicing mock papers or
get confused after this exam. Here is a guide to help you choose the right
career after CLAT exam in India.
Also known as Common
Law Admission Test, this entrance exam provides gateway to admissions in
National Law Universites (NLUs) for BA LLB, B.Com LLB, B.Sc LLB, and BBA LLB.
Apart from undergraduate courses, this same test is held for admission to LLM
or the postgraduate law programme.
Career Options to Choose –

Litigation -
Today, litigating
lawyer goes beyond simple hearing of a case or drafting it for client. He or
she can do specialization in cliché areas like Tax law, Intellectual Property
law, or Constitutional law. A candidate simply needs to be aware of State
Central Bar Council under Advocates Act, 1961.
2. Academics –
It is a common saying
that there is no profession, more noble, than teaching. It holds true for the
students of CLAT exam too. There is a huge demand for law graduates in the role
of lecturers and professors in central universities. One can also write
reports, thesis, print journals or even pen down a fiction novel.
3. Journalism –
All media houses
today are in need of legal experts. Apart from it you can do development
journalism by working with NGOs along with CLAT preparation. Or become
counselors or legal experts for UN agencies across India.
4. Qualify Public
Service Exam –
Once you qualify public service exam, an array of options will be open to you. In the Judiciary itself, there are various positions. These include lower judicial cadre posts of magistrate or sub-judge. It also includes –a chance of getting promoted to district and sessions judge.
5. Work in Government
Departments –
The department of
legal affairs and Legislative Council in Legislative Department have
recruitment process for law graduates. You can work as Commission Officers in
Indian Army, Navy or Air Force to be part of court martial process.
6. Join a Law Firm –
Finally, after giving CLAT test series, the option of joining a well-known law firm is appealing to many freshers. Here they get to work on a variety of issues that are not necessarily restricted to a particular area of law. Other benefits of this work include; getting international exposure, good incentives, networking opportunities, etc.
Once a student starts
preparation for CLAT with mock papers,
he or she must not give up hope. Attempting these mock test makes people
careful of time limits which is useful later in the career. Apart from online
question bank, students must also remain in touch with their teachers and
parents for extra support.
