If you follow any popular blogs, you may have seen guest bloggers
contributing to your favorite sites. Odds are if you are also a blogger, you
might have considered inviting a guest to contribute to your blog. It doesn’t
matter if you are based in Utah or if live on the East Coast — guest blogging is a good content
marketing strategy to help boost your visibility. However, there are some things you
should consider before you offer to allow someone to contribute to your blog.
One of the first things you will want to consider is what your chosen
blogger has to contribute to your conversation. This doesn’t mean that you have
to agree on everything; in fact, it could actually be beneficial to have
someone contribute who has a different point of view. However, you will still
want to be sure that your guest will match the tone of your blog.
Once you have found perspective guests, whether they are in Utah
or somewhere else, take a look at their work on their blog. There are a couple
of things you want to consider. First, take a look at the quality and
professionalism of the work they produce. Whatever the tone and the quality of
work that they produce on their own site, you can expect similar results in the
post they write for you.
Remember, you can and you should make requests. Just because you
have someone contributing to your blog and content marketing efforts doesn’t
mean you have to surrender control to them. It won’t matter if your guest is in Utah or on
the West Coast, make sure your guest understands your style for your content
marketing pieces as well as the dos and don’ts of your brand. It is also a good
idea to request that the piece be an original work and not duplicated. Remember,
at the end of the day this is your blog and you don’t want your efforts to backfire.
Finally, from Utah to the Gulf Coast, if you select the right
person to be your guest blogger, it can be a mutually beneficial relationship. Make
sure that you extend him or her the digital courtesy of encouraging your
followers to visit the website. It is also a good idea to engage with him or
her on social media and encourage your followers to do the same. Who knows, the
other party might even feature you as a guest blogger and return the favor for
your content marketing efforts.
