CompTIA A+ is an entry-level computer certification that certifies the knowledge and abilities of an entry-level PC computer service professionals. It demonstrates one’s ability in installing, maintaining, customizing, and operating personal computers. The certification helps learn about PC networking, components and security and helps understand operating systems, computer hardware, mobile devices, laptops, and printers. It not only teaches the necessary skills to install these items but also about how to configure, secure and troubleshoot these.

The A+ is sponsored by Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) and was initially a lifetime certification, but since 2011 it needs to be renewed at least once every three years. The examination is traditional, consisting of situational multiple-choice identification questions.

Getting certified

Getting the A+ certification qualifies the learner to move forward and get certified in CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Storage+, and finally CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner (CASP) as well. The A+ is an entry-level certification that opens doors to certified learning and training. In order to receive the CompTIA A+ certification, you must successfully pass two exams: 220-901 and 220-902. The first of these covers PC/mobile hardware and peripherals, networking and troubleshooting hardware. The latter covers installing and configuring different operating systems, along with addressing security, fundamentals of cloud computing and operational procedures.

The CompTIA A+ course exam consists of 90 questions, to be attempted in 90 minutes. The passing score is 675 out of 900 for CompTIA A+ 220-901 and 700 out of 900 for CompTIA A+ 220-902 examination.
