How often should you clean a swimming pool?

Let’s just face it! Cleaning a swimming pool is not an easy task. It involves a lot more than only vacuuming and maintaining it. There are several tasks involved in a pool cleaning process. Some needs to be done weekly, while others are for monthly pool maintenance or seasonally.

Most of you might consider following a chart for the timely maintenance. However, swimming pool cleaning is not as simple as following the chart. You should be a keen observer of problems and prevent them even before they arise.

The basic pool cleaning includes the cleaning of backwash pumps several times, and to have a thorough check of whether the skimmers and plumbing are becoming clogged with the leaves, hair and other wastes or not.

Having said that, here are the things to do for proper monthly pool maintenance:

  • Testing the pH levels, which should be between 7.4 and 7.6.
  • Adjusting the pool chemicals in accordance with the maintenance of proper pH levels.
  • Testing the free and available chlorine levels. They should be somewhere around 1.0 and 3.0 parts per million (PPM). You might as well adjust the chlorine levels when needed.
  • Make sure to skim your pool for insects, leaves, and debris. Then, trash your skimmer basket.
  • Ensure a routine shock treatment for your pool. For this, you just need to add a bag of shock for every 10,000 gallons.
  • Give your pool a high maintenance-level dose of algae preventative.
  • Regularly clean your pool tile and the pool waterline.
  • Brush the pool walls carefully and last but not the least, make sure you have vacuumed the pool.

Now that was your monthly task with pool. With that, and having done with all your daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks, make sure to get the water samples and take them to a water testing service for full-proof testing and proper chemical analysis of the pool.

That’s how you can look after your pool. Also, deploying services by a pool cleaning professional would help more in the green pool clean up, restoring and refreshing them to look brand new.
