How Many Press Releases Should Your Company Send Out In A Year?

by John Smith Media/News Company
In this age of the internet are press releases still relevant?

This query can and probably does crop up in the mind of many marketers.

The answer is straightforward – press releases still matter.

It is still the best approach to get your word out in the most cost-effective manner.

But here is a caveat.

With a potpourri of news items staring at the public on the internet daily, you narration must be exceptional to be read.

This is where press release writing comes into the picture.

If you are crafting your press release from the perspective of an online journalist, think why they must at all distribute it.

Firstly, the story must be newsworthy, and secondly it must have an elevator pitch.

Newsworthy means it should be timed well, must have significance to the target audience, and should be of human interest.

Elevator pitch means your press release must have a concise description of your company that can be understood by the reader in no time.

What is the great idea?

The attention span of the public is short and that of your target audience could be even shorter.

This is compelling enough reason that you must be able to communicate your idea in less than 60 seconds’ time.

Here are some other points you must not forget.

The story must be easy to understand.

Unless your news is targeted towards high-end professionals, the narrative must be simple to comprehend. With practice, even the most complex ideas can be broken into easy to understand elements.

It must be unassailable.

At the end of 60 seconds, the reader must get the essence of what you want to say.

Your story must be with a purpose.

It must have interesting information and presented in a way that engages the audience.

Here is another question that is on top of the mind of many businesspersons.

How often must you put out press releases or should there be a limit on the number of press releases put out in a year?

Does constantly sending out press releases make your company look stale, or not sending out enough can mean you will never get noticed?

The question is how much is too much.

Frankly, there is no clear answer to this.

It all depends on the events happening in your company from time to time.

A new product launch can be an exciting event. It may require follow-ups to clear up negative publicity of your company or the news may need further reinforcement by influencers.

It is for you to figure out how important your releases are.

If a series of releases have the potential to reinforce your brand, then choose the right PR writing services and go ahead.

And do not forget to cultivate a good relationship with your journalists.

Be careful not to pocket too much of their time lest the partnership gets dented.

Yet, do not hesitate to get your word out often if it helps your company.
