One of the most common foot complaints that podiatrists generally see is none other than ingrown toenails. Ingrown toenails can limit the ability of a person to accomplish what one wants to do. This nail condition occurs due to the development of nails from one or both sides, into the surrounding of the skin.

When it comes to ingrown toenails, The biggest factor is that they are hereditary. Due to this some people even face repeated ingrown toenails. It is a condition that causes an inflammatory response that leads to pain, redness, and swelling. The need for ingrown help generally arises when it includes pain and pus. For treating it, some people try home remedies, which others consult a doctor for better and quick results. But those who have any parent with ingrown toenails problems can also avoid it by following a few tips.

Be Comfortable:-

The best thing one can do to avoid ingrown toenails is to wear comfortable shoes. Those who usually wear high heels, pointed shoes, or tight and uncomfortable footwear generally face ingrown toenails. To avoid ingrown toenails, it is suggested to always wear the shoes as per one's size. Wearing comfortable shoes helps to reduce the stress from toes, which further prevents ingrown toenails.

Avoid Trimming Too Short:-

Many of us just trim our toenails too short, which further puts pressure on the ends of the toes. Doing this forces the sharp edges of the nail to drive into the surrounding tissue and cause ingrown toenails. So if you want to avoid them, always make sure not to trim your nails too short. And shape the sharp ends of the nails so they will not hurt the soft tissue. Make sure that you will trim your nails to an even and moderate length.

Good Cutter:-

Using a wrong or bad nail cutter also easily becomes the cause of ingrown toenails. While cutting the nails, it is essential to make sure that you are using a sharp, clean, and good-quality nail cutter/trimmer. Trimming the nails under proper light also helps to do avoid over or under trimming. Those who have thick toenails should use a straight toenail clipper to avoid ingrown toenails.

Keep Them Dry:-

During the winter and rainy seasons, the moisture level remains high in the environment. At such times wearing wet shoes, socks keep the toes wet. This further increases the chances of infection, and ingrown toenails. Using footwear made of breathable material helps to keep the toes fresh and avoid sweat.

Wear Protective Footwear:-

Many times ingrown toenails also occur when the toe accidentally got hit with something. Any trauma easily becomes the reason behind ingrown toenails. Those whose work put them at risk of injuring their toes should wear protective footwear. Such shoes are not just comfortable to wear but also protect the toes from trauma. As an ingrown help one can also try keeping their toes net and clean. Regular trimming of the nails and cleaning helps to prevent the buildup of infection, bacteria, and ingrown toenails.
