How do I keep my boat dry in the winter?

by Jason Watts Content Writer

To keep your boat dry in the winter, use a Desiccant. Silica gel is a desiccant, meaning it dries out the air immediately around it by absorbing moisture over time. You can often buy small pails or hanging satchels of silica gel or other desiccant products that you can strategically place throughout your boat in an effort to fight moisture. One way to reduce humidity or moisture below the deck is to ventilate your boat. Open the port hatches and windows of the cabin to allow hot humid air to flow out and to keep moisture out of boat compartments. You may also consider using small fans to circulate the cabin air.

Keeping your boat dry or moisture out is essential in the winter. Also long, hard winters mean that you will have to drain fluids from the oil, clean up the engine, cover your boat and preferably, store it indoors. If you’re not confident enough to winterize your boat alone you should hire professional help. With decades of experience, The Trident Marine Group knows what people need when it comes to boat docking and marina services. Contact them for winterizing your boat. With their help, you can easily get any complex electrical/mechanical issues fixed with ABYC-certified mechanics on call. I would suggest checking out their website and finding out everything they offer to slip owners
