How Can You Stop Your Dog From Nipping and Biting?

by Gloria Philips Expert Blogger

Have you ever had a dog who is typically well-behaved but then goes on a biting and nipping spree? A dog who exhibits sudden destructive tendencies may be in bad health or merely attempting to establish a domineering demeanor. If the latter appears to be the underlying cause, follow the instructions below to discover how to stop your dog from biting and nipping:

Method #1 - Screaming works best for me, especially if your dog has a propensity of chewing on you. When you get bitten, simply yell. Don't go overboard, as if you discovered a robber in your living room (otherwise your neighbors may call the cops); it should be loud enough to make your dog ponder. "Wow, I didn't realize my bite kicked serious butt, I should stop it right now."

Method #2 - It is critical to start giving your dog basic obedience training from the beginning so that he will quickly and easily accept whatever instructions you have for him. Dogs who have not been trained are difficult to admonish, and they may continue to make the same mistakes merely because they have been addicted to a certain habit. All of those irritating behavior’s, including as excessive biting, jumping, and digging, are readily corrected when your dog is completely educated in obedience.

Method #3 - Many experienced trainers believe that establishing oneself as the "leader of the pack" is critical when dealing with powerful dogs. If you don't establish yourself as the household's leader, you could never figure out how to stop your dog from biting and nipping. So, how do you handle this leader of the pack thing? It's really quite straightforward. You must first confirm that your dog obeys whatever you ask him to do before granting his wish. For example, when he wants to eat, make sure he follows a few fundamental orders such as "stand" or "sit." Free food is an absolute no-no; if your dog wants something, he must earn it. His domineering persona will eventually dissolve, and his biting and nipping tendencies will fade organically.
