Homeschooling Multiple Kids Made Easy

by Tyler P. A Passionate Blogger - Entertainment

Homeschooling multiple children can be advantageous because kids automatically have ‘classmates’ -- even if they aren’t all in the same grade. This makes playing outside more fun and games and competitions are more fun when you don’t have to go out and recruit friends to participate. However, trying to keep a school day organized and running efficiently can be a challenge especially if you have a wide range of student ages such as kindergarten to middle or high school. The learning levels and times needed with each student are different and can become overwhelming without the right setup and resources.

The best online homeschool curriculum typically starts in 3rd grade as an option for parents, with K-2nd grade opting for print curriculum. These younger grades require the parent to be fully involved as the teacher while older students are often able to be given tasks and are more self-sufficient. If it’s easier to have everyone using the same type of curriculum for as long as possible, some programs provide print all the way up through the 5th grade. However, don’t overlook the online option that reduces the need to keep up with books and gives older students the ability to sit at the table with a tablet or laptop to do their lesson and to interact with a professional teacher when needed. This leaves more time for the parent teacher to focus on the younger students who need the parent to establish the educational foundation by teaching the basics like reading which will help the young ones develop into self-study students.

It’s important to know what the strengths and weaknesses are for each student as no two children are exactly alike. This way, you can setup a daily schedule with periods for one-on-one interaction where one child can ask questions while the others are working on the subjects that they are comfortable with and will not need a lot of support on. Make sure there is a calendar where this schedule is marked so kids can reference and save their questions for their personal time. Another advantage to homeschooling multiple kids is knowledge sharing which can be done through subject discussions, field trips and by utilizing older students to help with their younger siblings. The best first grade homeschool curriculum will have math, science and history classes as will the older grades but the concepts taught will be different at each grade level. Parents can choose a topic that may cross all grades and ask each student to share what they know.  In this way, the younger students will hear and pick up on the information shared by the older students.

Bigger families can have lots of fun playing together, making memories and enjoying the experiences that come with the varied personalities present in the family. Homeschooling is a flexible education approach that gives parents and students an easy way to customize the learning experience even when using the online program which is designed to make the process easier and more consistent for every student. Enjoy the experience and talk with experienced homeschool parents to gain more recommendations,  tips and helpful resources.
