It might feel somewhat intimidating when it comes to hiring a logo designer if you have no idea about the ins and outs of the industry. Shortlisting and finally hiring the best candidate for the job is not just a question about how much talent the designer has. There are multiple other factors as well because of which a candidate might become the perfect selection for the job at hand. There are various tips and tricks which you could use to ensure you hire the best designer in town.

1. Be clear about what you’re expecting from them:

If you want your project to be successful, provide sufficient background information to the logo designer you want to hire. Make sure that the creative brief you’re providing the designer goes into a detailed description about your company, the qualifications you’re looking for in the logo designer and the objective of the project.
2. Understand the type of skills you’re looking for:

It is very important that you have a basic understanding of the kind of skills required for the work and also knowledge about the logo design world. For example, is your logo going to use pre made images or a new image will specifically have to be designed for it? Is most of the artwork going to be created in Visual Studio or Adobe Illustrator? Making sure you have all of this figured. This is going to ensure that you have a much smoother interview process.

3. Do not rely solely on portfolios:

Choosing logo designers solely based on the portfolios is definitely not the strategy you should follow. Instead, make sure you ask potential candidates about the various logo designs displayed in their portfolios and the story behind how they were created. This way you will be able to get a better understanding of how the particular designer creatively works. Additionally, how you will be able to complement their inspirations if you finally decide to hand the project over to them.
4. Judge the candidate by their ability to think on their feet

Another successful tactic used to narrow down the logo design candidates is to ask them something unexpected while interviewing them. For example, you could ask them to critique a competitor’s logo design and ask them to explain why and how they would have done it differently. The answer they give will be enough for you to judge if they are the best suited for the job or not. The goal of using this tactic is to see how easily and competently each candidate handles the unknown situation and how well the candidate thinks on his/her feet.
