HEALTHY WAYS TO INCREASE YOUR HP LAPTOP’S BATTERY LIFE:

by HARMANDEEP S. Digital Marketing Executive

Do you own a laptop? Over time its battery is getting drained faster than usual? The functioning and execution of your laptop are getting slower day by day? There is no need to worry about it because there are many efficient ways to increase the battery life of your laptop. Some of the healthy habits to increase the battery power of your laptop are listed below:

Always keep the brightness of your laptop low: Most of the times, the greatest energy consuming practice of your laptop is the brightness of the screen. Almost all the laptops available in the market have keyboard shortcuts which help to dim the backlight too. Hold the fn and then press the F9 button to diminish the brightness of the screen. To increase the brightness, hold the fn button and then press the f10 button on the keyboard.

Also, in the Control Panel, there should be ‘Power Options’ option which helps one to optimize the usage of power by a laptop.

Get rid of the screensaver: This is probably the easiest and the cleverest way to save the power of your battery.

Lower down the sound: Mute or completely kill off the sound of your laptop to preserve battery life. Some sound systems installed on your laptop can drain your battery in a jiffy and prove harmful in the long run too.

Clean the metal contacts of your laptop once a while: Remove the battery every once or twice a couple of months and make sure to clean the contacts with extra caution. You can use alcohol to wipe the areas with a clean, damp cotton cloth. Do not forget to dry the areas before putting the battery back. Also take care not to damage any battery contacts, so as there is no abrupt disruption or blockage in the flow of power.

No exposure of the battery to high temperatures: Heat can cause substantial damage to the laptop’s battery. Batteries should always be stored between temperatures 68F to 77F. Do not leave your laptop in your car on a hot summer afternoon. When charging your laptop, try to keep it at room temperature. Avoid guarding your laptop with pillows or blankets while using so as to prevent unnecessary heating. Try to use a table or a desk.

Turn off WiFi and Bluetooth when not in use: WiFi and Bluetooth discharge the battery faster you can even imagine. So when you aren’t using these, turn them off immediately. Modern laptops have keyboard combinations to turn both of them off. You can disable these by simply clicking the wireless button which is present on the bottom right-hand side of the desktop screen. Select the ‘Disable Radio’ option. Your job will be done.

Close down all unnecessary programs: If you do not use applications and they remain unused for a long period of time while you are at work in your laptop, it’s better to close them down so as they do not draw extra power. Extra load and multitasking (opening too many tabs) can have an adverse effect on the battery. Single tasking and simpler applications are the keys to have an extended period of battery life. Try using the Windows Task Manager to shut down the unwanted programs.

Unplug external devices and peripherals: For example, if you have a CD or external drive (USB), external mouse, portable hard disks in your computer even if they are not in use, it sucks huge battery life from your laptop. So unwanted external devices should be unplugged as soon as possible.

Remove batteries when the laptop is not in use for a long time: If you are at vacation or you are taking some time off from work, you can always discharge the laptop off its batteries and pack them and store away in a clean, dry place at room temperature. It is definitely a great way to save up your laptop’s battery life.

Have adequate RAM for your system: Having more memory for your computer always helps. Lesser the stress on your laptop’s virtual memory, more is the battery savings overall.

Computer Hygiene is essential: Always keep your computer clean, managed and organized. Defragmentation is really needed. Eliminate unwanted and unused programs, softwares and applications. Also, every now and then remember to clear the cached memory and old files too.

Invest in a Solid State Drive (SSD): Mechanical hard disks with moving (rotating) parts consume more battery power when compared to an SSD. This is why modern laptops come with SSD to provide better power as well as the quick operation of laptops.

Charge and drain your laptop: If your laptop battery is a Nickel Metal Hydride battery then let it charge to its fullest potential and then completely drain again before charging. Repeat this process at least once a month. This helps to have a longer shelf life for the battery.

Buy a new battery: Contrary to popular belief, every laptop battery is exhaustible. If you plan to buy a new one, always go for HP Laptop Batteries as they have much better power life than batteries of other brands available in the market.

Keep a spare battery: If your laptop is an essential tool for your work as well as your social and personal life, do not take risks or wait for your battery to die on you. Always keep a spare battery on the go.

HP laptop batteries come at very affordable and reasonable prices at CartCafe.in and deliver solid performances for years. This way you are always prepared with zero tension. You can absolutely trust the company and they will never disappoint you.
