GOP LIE #1: Economic growth reduces poverty = PAUL RYAN LIE = “The best anti-poverty program is economic growth.” = Since 1970s economy has grown 147% per capita = NO SUCH THING AS TRICKLE DOWN OR JOB CREATORS! FLAT WAGES! Poverty at 15% = HIGHER than 1970s. All the gains WENT to TOP O.1%. = 40 years ago Richest 1% got 9% of ALL income. NOW TOP 1% gets 20+%.

FACT: Economic growth = NO reduction in Poverty.

GOP LIE #2: Jobs reduce poverty RUBIO says NO need for HIGHER MIN WAGE or helping the poor! = REAGAN LIE + MULTINATIONAL DEM LIE! = FACT: Long-term unemployment can shorten life expectancy. But simply having a job does NOT REDUCE poverty. America’s working poor is growing to 25% of Americans = WELFARE TO MULTINATIONAL MEGA-CORPORATIONS = Food Stamps + Medicaid. FACT: More people are NOW working but still poor = Lousy wages. = Retail and fast food are 44% of the jobs added since 2008. 1960’s MIN WAGE translated to today = $22 / Hour + GOV assistance typically requires recipients to be working. = NO fewer poor people. = Bill Clinton’s welfare reform of 1996 with NO ladders into the middle class.

FACT: Work requirements = Worthless in reducing the percent in poverty.

GOP LIE #3: GOP says Ambition cures poverty + People are poor because they are LAZY! ZERO EVIDENCE that poor people are less ambitious than anyone else = Many work long hours at backbreaking jobs. = Lack is EDUCATION + Lack of Opportunity. = America spends less on the education of poorer children than richer ones #31 of 34 OECD Nations = Poor neighborhoods have fewer teachers and crowd students into larger classrooms + America doesn’t put better teachers in poorly performing schools.
