Got Timeshare Regret?! – How to Get Rid of a Hilton Timeshare?

by John Brave Blogger

Ever see something that catches your eye through the vitrine like a glamorous dress that you end up buying only to reach home to the rude awakening that you don’t even go to parties or any other formal events? We have all been there. An impulsive purchase we end up regretting. But most often than not, we can get a refund on it. If not, an exchange is almost always on the table.

However, that is not the case when you buy a timeshare. Timeshares glamorized under big names like ‘Hilton Grand Vacations’ may seem like a good idea at the time but now that your kids have grown out of the themed resort or you’ve lost one of your two jobs, or you realized it was a bad idea only after a day you signed the papers. Either way, you feel stuck and are thinking of ways to get rid of a Hilton timeshare.

It is way easier to buy a timeshare than getting out of it. But don’t let that perpetuity clause make you think that there is no way out. Following are a few ways you can get rid of your timeshare:

1.       Contact your Timeshare company

To get out of a timeshare contract, this is perhaps the safest and easiest way to go. However, it does not always work. Contact your developer and inquire if they have a policy regarding deed-back or surrender option or a resale program for owners who have no outstanding mortgages.

Hilton’s program for canceling timeshares is called Hilton grand vacations member solutions. This program is usually less expensive than seeking help from attorneys (almost equivalent to the double of your annual maintenance fee), so explore this option first.

2.       Broker Companies

When you consider selling your timeshare, keep in mind that owning a timeshare is very different from owning real estate. While a real estate’s value will likely grow over time, a timeshare’s cost starts decreasing from the moment it is purchased. There are timeshares listed on eBay for as low as $1 without any bids. The reason behind this is that timeshare developers like Hilton increase the initial cost of a timeshare to compensate for overhead costs.

Because timeshares hold such less value, you are unlikely to be able to sell it for substantial value. You can, however, get rid of the maintenance fee. There are broker companies who assist timeshare owners in reselling; however, these companies only ever work with owners of valuable timeshares that are in demand because they are paid based on commission.

You can also opt for selling the timeshare yourself. Find out its current market price, list it on a website, and hope for the best!

3.       Rent it Out

Renting out may be a good option for those who don’t want to permanently get rid of their timeshare and just want to lessen the financial burden of owning a facility. Or you can simply rent it out because your timeshare has no resale value.

Most timeshare contracts allow subletting, but some don’t.

Just keep in mind the cons of this arrangement. A lousy renter can cost you way more than your maintenance fee if they leave behind a huge repair project.

4. Timeshare Debt Cancellation Companies

If your timeshare developer does not have an in house exit solution, your go-to option should be a timeshare cancellation company. Bear in mind that there are many scams, so make sure to do your research before hiring a company to help you get out of your contract.

A good timeshare cancellation company will help you get out of your contract legally and responsibly. Most companies offer a money-back guarantee as well.

If you have a Hilton timeshare, you can work it out with their cancellation service. Getting in touch with a reliable cancellation company is by far the best option available.

Going to lawyers and attorneys can cost you a lot and they can even scam you. Break out of your timeshare legally after consultation and take back the control of your finances!
