Haven’t you ever wondered why Mark Zuckerberg prefers his nondescript tees and denims, or why Obama loves his blues and greys, Steve Jobs famously wore only denims and mock turtlenecks. One does not always have to dress up, and even when dressing up there is a certain amount of subtle grace that minimalist styling can give the wearer. Less is more works brilliantly not only for parties and social gatherings, it is also perfect for work and assorted situations.

Having a minimalist wardrobe is understanding your preferences and making them a matter of habit. It is not a question of buying more such clothing or accessories, it is about identifying that which you truly love and buying only that. There is no sense in calling yourself a minimalist and having a wardrobe full of the bright colours. Here are some simple ways you adopt a simple minimalist look:

Wear neutrals – Go for neutral colours always. Colours like dark blues, greys, blacks and whites are perfect and can go with any occasion. Not only are they readily available they also look really good against all skin tones. Colour is one of the first thing that identifies minimalist dressing. Many chose to pair black on black or white on white, which could be a great idea provided you know how to carry them off.

Polo necks and skirts – They are elegant, humble and most definitely attract attention without being too distracting. Oversized polo neck cardigans have made a massive resurgence after the nineties, and the same goes for midi skirts. For work or parties, this look is an absolute hit and requires very little work. Pairing this up with a simple bag or sunglasses could round off the effect. For that matter, even funnel neck cardigans can go amazingly with skirts and can add that little bit of differentiation in your wardrobe.

Find your comfort zone – The best part about minimalist chic is that it allows you to find your comfort zone and lets you dress accordingly. If you enjoy wearing skirts more than pantsuits, go for it. It is all about finding what feels best on your skin and sticking to it.

Go cozy – Having a simple, well-cut knee-length coat is perfect to round off a snug little outfit for a day at work or out with friends. It doesn’t need too much and the coat adds that added bit of coziness to make for the perfect day out.

Sweater and jeggings – Jeggings are comfortable in almost all occasions. A simple pair of black jeggings or maybe three are a must for any girl’s wardrobe. Pair them with loose knit sweaters or even chunky sweaters and the effect is an absolute eye grabber.

Play with pastels – Trying out shades of pastels can be a great idea. Having a simply pastel trench coat to round off your lightly coloured outfit and heels can be a great outfit for a meeting. The flare of the coat adds a little bit of magic to your walk that is undeniable.
