Naming a pet is no small task especially with all the names out there. For example, when you name a baby, you usually end up giving it a name that means something to your family’s legacy. For example, the first name Chelsea is actually based off the town in London, it’s Old English in descent, and it means landing place for chalk or limestone. It can also be a name given after the famous section of Manhattan in New York, Chelsea Manhattan.

No matter the reasoning behind a name, for a pet, names are given based on a physical attribute the pet has, or a personality trait the pet exhibits often. For example, a dog with hazel eyes may be named Hazel. Yet, I’m here today to talk about cat names because cats can be both easier or more difficult to name depending how you look at it but any cat lover can step up to the challenge and name his or her kitty.

Below are several names that you can use to pick as the name for your kitty:
Agatha means good.

Bella became popular after the widely successful Twilight series. It’s great for a night-time kitty.
Alice is a feline favorite since approximately the Middle Ages.

Athena means reason, justice, and the art, based off the Greek god with the same name.

Boots fits any cat that happens to have white paws.
Amber works well for any cat that has yellow eyes.

Callie fits a cat that has three colors, comes from the word calico.

Angel is pretty self-explanatory. If you have a kitty who’s sweet and good natured, and basically well-behaved, this name would fit it perfectly.

Camilla is for any cat with royal family history, or even a cat that acts as though it is royalty.

Cleopatra gets its history from the Queen of the Nile but in your cat’s case, it’s perfect for the queen of your living room.

Chessie is the name of the mascot of the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad. It also sounds similar to the Cheshire cat from the children’s book and Disney movie, Alice in Wonderland.

Chloe happens to be the most popular kitten name in the United States.

Diva is a cat name that fits the cat that doesn’t act like a princess or queen of the living room but as if she is the center of your universe.

Daphne is perfect for any Southern cat, as it gets its origin from fragrant shrub in most Southern gardens.

Speaking of Alice in Wonderland, Dinah is what Alice’s cat was named.

Duchess is perfect for that cat who isn’t yet a queen but still acts noble in character.

Dixie is perfect for your Southern elegant cat.
Elvira is for cats of the dark variety, and gets its origin from the Mistress of Darkness with the same name.

Elsa is the lead heroine in Born Free and also in the widely popular Disney film, Frozen.

Flora is Latin for flower and fits any pretty kitten.

Ginger fits any cat with a yellow coat. Witches and cats are synonymous so what better name to use than Glenda, the good witch from the Wizard of Oz. If you happen to have an athletic and aesthetically pleasing kitten, consider rewarding her with the name Grace, which also has many religious connotations.

Gucci may be your favorite designer, but why not name your stylish cat after him? If your cat is a tried and true loyal companion, then you should definitely consider the name Gretel after the lead character in the fairytale, Hansel and Gretel, who saves her brother from the witch.

Does your cat have green eyes? Name her Jade.

Ingrid fits any cat who is a heroine in her own right based off the Scandinavian heroine with the same name. Matilda is for the cat who likes to show great strength and bravery by climbing to high heights in your home. Mona, a Celtic name, means noble and fits any cat with the same description.
Nala is the heroine from the Lion King and it will fit your heroic feline just as well. If you have a cat that likes to climb, consider naming her IvyMinnie means small but small defeated Goliath so it’s perfect for a small cat who continues to surprise you.
