Get Rid of Acne Effectively with Proven Medical Treatments

by Andy Cheng Director

Even though it is common knowledge that the skin is the largest organ in our body, most of us don't put in effort to maintain the youthful-looking skin. Our skin is exposed to the unforgiving weather and pollutants from the environment on a daily basis. With the increase in emission of pollutants from vehicles and factories, our skin is constantly subject to the toxins in the air around us.

Over time, the toxins may cause our skin to age prematurely, making our skin look dull and unattractive, and clogging the pores.

If the skin is not cleansed thoroughly, the impurities may mix with sebum and clog the pores. This is the perfect condition for acne to develop. “Although most facial cleansers sold over-the-counter are good for daily cleansing, they may not be effective to decongest the clogged pores,” says Dr. Siew Tuck Wah, Medical Director of Radium Medical Aesthetics.

“Cleansing your face daily is a given. In addition, you need to unclog the pores and remove the impurities accumulated in the pores. Only with the removal of buildup of bacteria and dead skin cells on the face, you will enjoy acne-free skin. Below are some suggested ways to help gently exfoliate debris and eliminate blackheads, leaving the skin smooth and clear.

Clay Masks for Acne Prone Skin

Clay masks can be inconvenient and messy to apply, so many people tend to stay away from clay masks. However, not many people know the benefits of clay masks.

Bentonite clay in clay masks have powerful anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties that can help to sooth redness and inflammation. Clay masks that contain kaolin clay are great for skin purification and elimination of impurities in the pores.

Many facial treatments for acne are specially designed by doctors to reduce the inflammation and clam red, angry skin. Many facial treatments include acne-combating treatments such as clay masks to soothe problem areas to ensure long-term, acne-free skin.

Tea Tree Oil for Treating Acne

Tea tree oil contains anti-bacterial properties that are effective against acne-causing bacteria that cause acne to flare up. It also has calming properties to reduce the redness and appearance of pimples by drying them out more quickly.

Mixing a couple of drops of tea tree oil in one tablespoon of aloe vera gel and apply it directly on the acne. Leave it on for about 15 to 20 minutes and wash it off with warm water. Doing this twice a week will bring down the inflammation and control the aggravation of pimples.

Medical Treatment for Acne

Acne can be a very stubborn and unpredictable skin condition. If trying home remedies and shaking up your skincare regime don't work, it is probably time for you to visit your doctor to help you manage your skin condition.

According to Dr. Siew, stubborn acne is best treated using a combination acne treatment program. Acne is often caused by clogged pores, overactive sebum production, and accumulation of dead skin cells.

If acne is not well-managed, it may leave visible residual acne marks which can be permanently etched on your face. Treating acne effectively without leaving any scars require a multi-prong approach that includes laser treatments, facial cleansing, and blemish revision treatments.

A comprehensive acne treatment program should be able to deliver the following benefits:

·     Reduce oil production on the face

·     Reduce appearance of unsightly acne scars

·     Eliminate acne-causing bacteria so as to control acne outbreaks

·     Shrinking pore size to reduce impurities from clogging them

You may notice that some acne occur around the same parts of the face. This is because of the overactive sebum production in the area, leading to the blockage of pores.

There is a permanent acne treatment that can effective destroy the hyperactive sebaceous glands. Using radiofrequency waves, AGNES Acne Treatment destroys the hyperactive sebaceous glands that are responsible for the recurring acne.

Using a micro-insulated needle, radiofrequency waves are delivered precisely to the areas to be treated. When the sebaceous glands are destroyed, they no longer secrete sebum and they will not get infected anymore. The acne does not recur anymore.
