Get Your Best Skin Ever Regardless of Your Age

by Andy Cheng Director

Let's face it - Life is not fair. Just like people, not all skin is created equal. Some people are born with better skin texture than others. Environmental factors aside, hereditary factors play a very important role in determining the type and quality of your skin.

Although good genes give you a head start or an easier time to maintain your skin, it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and good skin care habits in order to have clear complexion.

The good news is that flawless, blemish-free skin you’ve always wanted is no longer just a dream. Dr. Siew Tuck Wah, Medical Director of Radium Medical Aesthetics shares with us some effective skin care tips to restore the radiance back to your face.

Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle

Medical experts in the U.S. have studied the habits and lifestyle of more than 100 pairs of twins. There was sufficient evidence to show that the person who took care of the skin and religiously applied sunscreen looked years younger than the other sibling who did not take care of the skin.

It is common knowledge that smoking is accelerates aging. It is also bad for your heart, lungs, and brain. What many people don’t know is that it smoking is also ruining your looks. It makes you age faster than usual and makes your complexion dull and unattractive.

“My patients often complain about dull and uneven skin tone. Laser treatments are useful to improve the skin tone by eliminating hyperpigmentation and reduce signs of aging. No amount of laser treatment will help if you don't take preventive measures. The best way to delay aging is to stop smoking and apply sufficient sunscreen before leaving your house.” says Dr. Siew.

Vitamin A for Beautiful Skin Vitamin A: Key Ingredient for Beautiful Skin

Vitamin A, commonly known as retinol, is probably one of the most widely acknowledged ingredient for improving skin texture. A derivative of Vitamin A, retinoid have been used by doctors to treat severe acne and reversing sun damage and signs of aging.

Studies have shown that Vitamin A is a powerful ingredient for stimulating cell turnover, boost collagen production, unclog pores, and reduce fine lines on the skin. Creams that contain retinoids can treat several skin conditions, it is also possible to obtain similar benefits from consuming food with Vitamin A such as liver, cod liver oil, kidney, and egg yolks. Consuming liver once a week is a great way to keep your skin clear and eliminate acne!

Basic Skin Care Products are Better

When it comes to skin care products, less is more. There are some basic ingredients that have proven to work effectively such as salicylic acid for acne and Vitamin A and C for anti-aging benefits and boost skin health. Stick with simple products that have a high concentration of these ingredients.

“Remember to always give your products some time to take effect. A reasonable time frame is about six to eight weeks. If no changes can be seen, the product is unlikely going to work.” says Dr. Siew. “It is advisable to seek medical treatment if there is a condition you wish to treat instead of spending large sum of money shopping for different creams.” he continues.

Watch Your Food Intake

Reduce your intake of salt and sugar for better skin health.

Too much salt can cause water retention, which may subsequently lead to swelling. The skin on the face is thin, especially around the eyes. If you have water retention due to high salt intake, your face may appear swollen. Try to cut down on salt intake especially at night.

Sugar is probably one of the worst things for skin health. High sugar level in the blood can compromise the collagen level in your skin, making you more susceptible to wrinkles and fine lines.

Consuming food that are beneficial for your skin will greatly improve your skin tone and texture. Some of these food high in nutrients and antioxidants include tomatoes, dark chocolate, oatmeal, green tea, fatty fish, walnuts etc.

Thorough Skin Cleansing

Don't be lazy and take shortcuts when you are cleansing your face, especially at night before you sleep.

Even if you are too tired after a long day at work or a night out, you should always find time to thoroughly clean all the dirt and makeup from your skin. All the makeup that you put on your face the entire day contains harmful chemicals that can clog your pores.

Medical Laser for Effective Anti-Aging Treatment

Home remedies and skin care products provide limited benefits to the skin. Keeping a healthy lifestyle and using skin care products religiously can help maintain beautiful and healthy skin.

People who wish to do more for their skin by improving the skin texture or reverse signs of aging can consider including effective laser treatments into their skin care regime.

LASEMD Cosmeceutical Delivery System (CDS) is a new concept in laser treatment. It uses an advanced laser system to deliver serum with active ingredients deep into the skin for a more efficacious outcome. People have seen visible signs of improvement in various skin conditions such as pigmentation and wrinkles after a few sessions of laser treatment.
