Future of Civil Engineering in India
Civil
engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering. It deals with the
construction of almost everything we see around ourselves such as roads,
buildings, bridges and other such large scale structures.
What is Civil engineering?
In our day
to day life, we come across a variety of things like bridges, highways,
buildings. If we stop for a second and wonder who is behind all the
construction and planning of these things? The answer is civil engineers. Civil
engineering is one of the oldest and the broadest engineering disciplines. This
course involves planning, designing, constructing, maintaining and supervising
infrastructures which include facilities for modern life. A civil engineer
designs and plans the developments of these facilities such as roads,
buildings, dams, canals, sewage systems etc.
Civil
engineering is traditionally broken into many sub-disciplines. It is considered
to be the second-oldest form of engineering after military engineering. Civil
engineering can take place from municipal work departments to federal
government agencies.
B-tech in civil engineering is a four-year undergraduate program
that includes the study of material science, structural designs, construction
materials and management. Aspirants seek this course as it offers various job
opportunities in private as well as government jobs. Civil engineers have a
wide variety of specializations to choose from such as constructional,
Geo-technical, structural, coastal and ocean, fire protection, irrigation,
water resource and general engineering.
A student
must pursue an undergraduate engineering program (B-tech) after completion of
plus two if they aspire to become a civil engineer. Students can go for higher
studies such as post-graduation programs or masters after their B-tech or they
can opt for jobs also.
Scope for Civil engineering:
A fast-paced and futuristic industry: Civil engineering provides a wide
range of variety in projects. Projects like building roadways, railways,
bridges, commercial buildings, residential complexes are always going to exist
in this modern era. Therefore there is always going to be a need for well
qualified civil engineers.
Global and lucrative profession: Civil engineers are recruited by global
companies across the world. It is also one of the best-paid jobs in the world.
Aspirants should choose colleges that help them in developing the necessary
technical skills.
Breaking away from a routine desk
job: Civil
engineering is a field job more than a desk job which means the people involved
in this job don’t have to spend all their time behind the desk. It’s a hands-on
job which means they will be working in different environments, climates and
locations.
Creative field- This profession is a combination of
technical skills and individual creativity as it involves designing and
structuring. Professionals have to make sure that creation is modern,
innovative and function better than any traditional structure.
Good Pay: Professionals of this engineering
branch can obtain good pay and benefits in their jobs. If the civil engineer is
very skilled and has a wide variety of works to show in his profile, he will be
more in demand.
