From windmills to cupolas to chicken coops-I'm a popular lady!
I have gone through an annoying couple of months since I created my Wordpress blog. I'm drowning in popularity from spammers. Easily recognized spammers, more than likely bots.
The first wave of spammers were blown in by Windmills.
No less than 10 comments a day and all of them with links to God knows what, but every one of the user names started with the word 'windmills'. It didn't take long at all to figure it out. But in no time at all Cupolas joined the fray.
I went through about two weeks of being blasted by both before the windmills opted to bow out. About a week of constant Cupolas showing up and getting deleted brought the most idiotic of all the spambots. The dreaded chicken coop.
Of course I had to go through a week of Cupolas and chicken coops together. Right now it's chicken coops only but I can't wait to see what comes next. Doghouses? Rat traps?
Thank the blogging angels I have the Akismet plug in that automatically sends these posts to spam where they belong.

I do review as I have found because of my settings legitimate comments have gone there. A single link triggers Akismet on my blog so every pingback gets marked as spam

I never review those. i just delete them permanently

Yes I use it and it doesn't block them, just diverts them to a spam folder for review.

Don't you use askimet on your blog Cheryl? That plug in blocks most of the spam comments.
