Free Images and Music: The New Web World
Ever since the internet became popular or public, the face of world wide web has altered significantly. From the mere exchange of simple black and white coded information or hypertext links to the uploading/downloading, and sharing of high definition videos or free high resolution images, the web of information distribution has become more rich and complex.
Picture Says All
Who would have thought back in the 90’s that one day we will be communicating by sending each other photos which have been shot from the most advanced cameras and are multiple times the size that they were about two decades back. The process has been greatly pushed with the rise of social media which in a nutshell refers to the web-based service that helps the society or the masses to exchange information and communicate with each other.
Some of the best social networking sites in India have transformed now from simple chat messengers to the facilitators of sharing extremely sharp resolution images in either a compressed or uncompressed form. This has reduced the need to type a lengthy message as one photo uploaded by anyone can inform everyone about them.
The Great Symphony
It does not simply stop with photos, sound too has found some new avatars and ways to be heard online. Gone are the days of owning a cassette and a tape player for playing the romantic numbers from the Bollywood chartbusters. The shift from analog sounds to digital sound has now made it possible to use codecs like Mp3 in order to transmit music on the web.
Music companies now no longer invest much in a physical copy of an album. They give a teaser to the fans of an album or an artist on the social networking sites and later on release the whole digital pop album or bollywood music online.
Need for Concern
From a critical perspective, some questions arise over the digitization of social lives of human kind.
1. The biggest question that we face is the ethical one. One might be worried about sharing images to public or friends that may have been posted by others. The solution could be in copyright free images and music which are safe for using and modifying.
2. Is the internet being unnecessarily bloated by the high-resolution files for photos and music? Well, some file formats like Wav or Flac might be large but they do offer maximum quality. However, for online sharing of music, mp3 songs work just fine.
In the end, it depends on the masses to be aware of the technology that they are using. Some basic knowledge of it helps a lot while offering them content for daily entertainment.
