Four Tips To Plan A Murder Mystery Party Night
by Alana Dicknut WriterIf you had never hosted a murder mystery party before, the responsibility of making it interesting, easy and fun can be quite baffling. It really isn't as that difficult as it may appear. At first it may appear to be difficult on what to do or how to do? Once you host a couple, you’ll realize how fun and engaging it can be not only for the participants but for you also.
1. How to get started?
Begin by making a list of people who’ll be interested in taking part in such event because participation of all the guests makes it even much more enjoyable and interesting. So, take your time to call and email people asking if they’ll be interested in such game party. The game itself is quite lengthy and takes time to finish. So, you don't need to memorize everything, but it certainly helps to know where everything is. Print out everything out and read it at leisure.
2. Cast for the characters?
Another important task is to cast characters
for the game. Two ways to cast for a murder
mystery party game are you can either cast in advance or do it on the same day
of the party. Both have their positives and negatives.
The advantage of casting in advance is that
your guests can prepare themselves for the role and they can lookout for
appropriate costumes and props to enhance the atmosphere of the game.
The main disadvantage is that if you have
given a critical character to someone and if he or she cancels at the last
minute, then you’ll have the time to recast.
If you decide to cast on the day this would
mean that you lose a little atmosphere but it then you're not relying on anyone
particular. So, it will save you a lot of worrying and tension.
And the third option is to do both. Ask some people in advance which characters they would like to play and leave some for the last minute from the guests in the party.
3. Manage catering?
Apart from the fun games and themes, food
and alcohol always is the heart of a great party. The best way to go about the
food is to cater for hand held starters so that the guests stay involved in the
game as they divulge themselves into the food and beverages.
So, finger food like: slices of pizza,
fried food and sandwiches or whatever takes your fancy. It is ideal as it can
be prepared in advance.
Drinking is a different game altogether. It's absolutely essential to provide enough soft drinks, water, juice or alcohol.
4. Handling questions:
As intriguing as it may be, murder mystery
games can quite confusing for many, as they might not understand what’s going on
at first or how to find the murderer or what to do? They’ll have different
questions and who will they go to for the answers? Of course, you! As you can’t
predict the questions in advance but be prepared thoroughly with your game and
its rules and regulations.
Use two simple rules when you decide the
game:
Is it
fun? Do make sure that the game is fun for all and not so complicated that
people lose interest. It should engage everyone in a simple fun way. The motto
of the party is it to have a good time not to find who’s the smartest or who
can solve the case.
Is it
fair? People who’ll play different characters would want to have certain
powers over the other character and may come up with different ideas or would
want to improvise. In that situation, say no to that as it can disrupt the
course of the game.
