Ford Fans Geek Out with GT-Inspired Xbox Controller
The year 2015 has been an exciting one with the release of several new amazing products. Most recently in the gaming world Halo Five was released for the Xbox One, reaching record sales. In the automotive world, the SEMA show this November showcased hundreds of new and exciting car models complete with souped up features and creative designs.
In an effort to bring together the best of both worlds, last week, Ford and Microsoft collaborated to create an Xbox controller inspired by the new GT model. Sleek, innovative and cerulean, this controller mimics the impressive design of the spiffy sports car.
Ford Dealers in Utah and across the country won’t be giving this item away as a door prize any time soon, but the controller model is an exciting idea for fans everywhere. It appears to be lightweight and controls look simplified and user-friendly.
As explained by gaming blog, Kotaku, “It’s a mock-up for an Elite controller that has some specific changes made for driving games, like a custom driving thumbstick, and some racing pedals for triggers.” Elite wireless controllers are the newest edition to Xbox technology. Batteries power down automatically when not in use, and the frame is lighter than ever.
Although driving wheels are popular for these types of games, they are not always practical. Gamers in Utah and elsewhere know what types of features make controllers easier to use.
Luke Plunkett, an author on Kotaku, says he would consider buying a controller like the one modeled after the GT. He won’t find the model at local Ford dealers, but the idea is intriguing. He explains that the controller also features “a carbon fiber construction and see-through back panel (because the new Ford GT has one).”
This isn’t the first time Ford has dabbled in controller design. Earlier this year the company released a series of prototypes modeled after Ford victory cars from the Le Mans race in France. The 1964, 1966 and 1967 race cars each received a festive matching Xbox controller complete with racing stripes and car numbers.
Although these cars can no longer be found at local Ford dealers in Utah, the 2016 GT can. Fans who attended the SEMA show this month had the chance to see the new super sports car on display, alongside its matching controller.
So, whether you’re off to visit one of the many Ford dealers in Utah or just happen to stop by your favorite gaming store, you might find the new GT in one form or another.
