Finding the Right Sport for Your Child
Nothing beats horsing around with the old man on the home basketball court or playing volleyball at the park with the big sister, but sometimes kids just want to find their own sport to excel in.
There is no doubt that children are filled with energy and the need to be active. Always running, jumping, flipping, bouncing off the walls—you name it, your child is probably doing it. Putting children in sports gives them the opportunity to exert all that energy, and compete and have fun while doing so. However, finding the right sport for your child can be a challenge; a challenge that will probably consist of a lot of trial and error, but will pay off in the end.
The search for the right sport can often be exhausting and expensive. Trekking all the equipment to the local park, meeting up for open gyms, joining teams and sometimes even quitting teams can cost time and money. However, having a home basketball court or even a multisport court of some kind might just be the first step to making this search easier for you and your child. With a home court, you can avoid waiting for all the chaos that comes with planning when and where to play.
Imagine only having to take a few steps into your own backyard to try out all different kinds of sports. You and your family can walk outside any time, any day. You can start shooting hoops one day, and hitting some tennis balls the next. The options are limitless. A home basketball court is a convenient place where family and friends can come together and play—and an opportunity for your children to discover the sports they are passionate about.
Now, as much as children look up to their big brother who plays college football or their big sister who plays varsity tennis, it is important to let your children find their own interests, discover what they are good at and what they enjoy most. So be open to change and let them try it all.
Before you know it, your child will go from endless hours practicing and playing on your home basketball court with family and friends to competing in that high school gym and maybe even in that college arena. Seeing the joy on your child’s face when competing and excelling in a sport that they love and chose will be well worth the search.
